is there anyway in windows xp to assign a particular batch of drive letters to all “USB FLASH DRIVES/External Storage”
we are running a network and on our xp machines drives f, g, h are mapped
local drives are, a, c, d, e
when someone plugs in a usb drive we have to either disconnect F and then the usb drive will show up in my computer, or we have to go under management and map the drive to Z manually
because of soo many different flash drives taht we use on a daily basis, i was wondering if anynoe knew a way to assign for eg. letters T - Z for flash drives only?
well, I've solved this this way: the drives you have mapped as f,g,h to map those as x,y,z. So whenever you plug in a flash drive, f will be avaible for it and you won't have to unmap your network drive
NeSCio, with over 300 computers, and those network drives being mapped from 1998 lol, its gona be one big issue, i was wondering if there is any settings or a utility which will allow me to set wxyz as drives to any external storage plugged in
The other possibility is to write a script to check a particular file from F: if it is not there that means its Flash Disk. Then can Map it to Z or any other Drive letter. and then remap F: to its original path:
There’s another utility (over here) which has some potential. You can run it from cmd line and hence batch it, and then maybe put in the autorun on the flash drive. One problem that it gets stuck after like 4-5 runs and then u need a reboot. Here’s the syntax:
“usbletter.exe x: /y” (not sure if its -y as now its sticking on my pc)
