I want to buy a 256 MB flash/thumb drive. If I do Froogle search I get different brand names ranging from $30 to $100. Why such a difference in price. Also, some are labeled as “USB 2.0” and some have only “USB”, what does 2.0 mean here? Which one should I get or does it matter? Please suggest a good 256 MB flash drive. Thanks.
USB 2.0 devices have much faster read/write speed than USB 1.1 (or simple USB). It is backward compatible, though (I think). Depends on your computer. If your computer has USB 2.0 slots, then you will get benefit of the higher speeds and it makes sense to go with the higher-priced USB 2.0 flash drives. Else stick with normal USB flash drives. Most new computers have USB 2.0. They look the same, though, so check.
The one from Dell, looks fine. Some flash drives these days also work as MP3 player (and probably also FM radio). So thats one reason why they may be pricier.
