Five servings of fruit

Yesterday morning on the GEO breakfast show this doctor lady was saying that when eating fruit you should not turn it into a fruit salad/chaat thing and have small portions of different kinds of food, instead if u r having an apple then have a whole apple. Didn;t make sense of me. I have been having a bowl of mixed fruit pretty much daily for the last few weeks and if I go by this lady’s suggestion I am doing myself no good. Has anyone heard such stuff before?
