Fishing!

Re: Fishing!

flyfishing appeals to me because one can get uber-nerdy with it, and also combines naturally beautiful and wild places.

lots of scope for hiking along and wading through mountain stream beds. i’ll try to post up some personal pictures of places i get to fish once in a while, its pretty good to be out there even if you catch nothing. flyfishing is fairly active compared to the common idea of sitting on the bank waiting for something to take your bait. you cast the fly, let it drift for seconds… no bite? cast to a different spot on the water, and move along.

its all about artificial flies, no live bait. each part of the world gets its own bugs, you have to match them if you want to catch fish. and depending upon the season and water temperature, you have to use a floating fly, a wet fly, a sinking fly etc. there are a lot of knobs and variables to tweak, there is a lot of skill to hone in casting your fly, reading the flow of water and knowing where the spots where fish are, its something you can do for years and still be learning. its not boring ever.
