Fish Gardens?

I’ve seen lots of little fish tanks (bowls, really) that have a plant growing its roots directly into the water, and fish swimming around in it.

I have seen beta fish used in these “fish gardens”, but recently I saw one in which there were small fish - they weren’t betas.

I’m sure Queer might know, since he’s our resident fish freak - where can I find out more info on these things as in what plants to grow and what different kinds of fish can use this kind of fish bowl as their habitat.

Re: Fish Gardens?

bettas, not betas. could also keep the florida flagfish and maybe guppies if you are careful. most other fish cant stay okay in a tiny puddle of water with no temperature regulation or flitration.

also, the plants on top are just decorative, serve the fish no good. dont believe the salesman if he says they eat the roots.

however you could always get a tiny 2.5 or 5 gallon tank with a proper substrate and lighting and grow submerged aquatic plants in them. you can then keep a whole variety of happy tiny fish in them.
