fish cakes

does anyone make desi style fish cakes (like in the style of crab cakes) made with tinned tuna and/or salmon and have a good recipe?

please share!

Re: fish cakes

This is how I make my salmon cakes (I do this whenever I make a whole salmon filet and have leftovers)

take whatever salmon you have left and shred with a fork…add one egg, some more breadcurmbs, finely chopped celery & red onion and some grated parm cheese..mix well…if it seems too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs…form into patties… in a non stick pan, heat 1 pat of butter with a little olive oil…cook until patties are crisp and brown on the outside and warm through the middle.

If you want give it a “desi” taste, then just add some garam masala and chopped hara dhaniya & hari mirchi

Re: fish cakes

I like making fish cakes for lunch on the weekend to use up left over salmon or if I don't have anything else about - tinned tuna.

I use fish and potato. So I will first boil some new potatoes until they are more or less cooked and roughly mash them. Then I add salt, pepper, mixed herbs, red chilli powder (or chilli flakes - whatever you have) and some mixed herbs. Some finely chopped spring onion (or chives) and coriander. Combine, keeping the potato rough. If you're not sure of quantities, just taste a bit and adjust accordingly. Then I add the fish and mix it in.

If you have breadcrumbs for the coating, you can add the egg for binding in the mixture. Make a pattis with the mixture, coat with breadcrumbs and fry. I don't always have breadcrumbs so instead I beat an egg in a separate bowl and dip my pattis in there before frying - you get get an egg coating instead.

I add a bit of cheese on top after cooking.
