Point to note, that even the other three scholars only gave permission for prawns (and lobsters). So, other creatures like squids etc are also prohibited under their interpretation.

How did you arrive at this understanding?

Iqbal

I agree with that… I love Alaskan snow crabs, lobsters, clams, oysters… mmmmm mmmmmm yummy yummy all the way. They are all halal…

Assalamo Alaikum,

Mufti I.Desai (Hanafi school) has not given any references to Quran or the authentic ahadith to backup his fatawa.

Abdali,
how about oysters, clams on the half shell, calamari, octopus, eel, and caviar?

YYYYUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM!!!

:yummy: :yummy: :yummy:

Bucket of crabs dipped in garlic and herbs. Oh yeah baby!

By the way, Is eating raw fish (sushi) allowed?

I love new england clam chowder soup and I eat raw oysters straight from half shell, rumor has it they are sex enhancers I think there is some truth to it. calamari and octopus salad is great..yummy yummy all the way.

yes I saw that but then Faisal said:

"Hanafi school of thought is most strict on its definition of sea-creatures and disallow prawns, while the remaining three allow prawns. "

Afterwards he did qualify that statement by saying he wasn't sure. So I take it there's nothing specific?

The Quran clearly tells us what is prohibited 'Haraam' and what is permissible 'halal'

And since is says that food from the ocean is halal

THEN WHY DO YOU DOUBT IT

Hadith ... is there to support the Quran ... not add to it!
