First visit to fertility clinic!

I have my first visit to fertility clinic coming up on wednesday IA…I am a little nervous (and excited) at the same time lol :stuck_out_tongue: Excited because its giving me a kind of hope  What should i expect on my first visit? Almost all my investigative tests are already done including the blood work (FSH and day21, harmonal), ultrasounds, HSG. The problem was anovulation (thanks to PCOS :hinna: ) So i hope no more tests are done and they skip to the treatment phase. Experiences, suggestions, wishes, everything will be appreciated :
p.s. sorry mods if theres an existing thread on this topic. Just wanted to share the update!

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

Good luck...!!
First visit with the fertility doctor will usually involve discussions about your issues and what are the available options. They might wanna do some more testing if they think it is needed before they start with the treatments. They can also discuss your insurance coverage, that is what medications or procedures are covered and which ones are not.Although we had our baseline investigations done by our primary doctors but it took about 3 months before we actually started anything with them. But then it all depends what they require from you .
It is equally exciting, as you said it gives hope, but please keep in mind that it takes some time. But never lose hope
All the very best...!!

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

good luck! Everythign what chips said, and also have patience. It might not work on the first try with a new drug or procedure.

The docs said I have slight PCOS and put me on Femara. Its only been 2 months, but it seems to be working, as my follicles are getting larger and releasing without the trigger shot.

Make sure you get a swab test - where they test your mucus for infection. That is pretty common for infertile couples. Also a PCT - where they check if the sperm actually survived busting through the cervical mucus.

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

Congrats AngelEyes. You are one step closer InshAllah to conceving. I wish you all the best.

Can someone please explain what type of test confirms anovulation? My ob/gyn said she can assure me that I am ovulating, but my periods are pretty irregular. They range anywhere from 30-45 days and the cycle length is different each month. How can you tell if you are ovulating or not? I have a ClearBlue Fertility Monitor and so far has always detected the LH surge as well as the estrogen surge....but there is no way to know for sure if ovulation occured or not.

Also what is the PCT test that checks if sperm survived the cervical mucus environment? How is it performed? Are both of these tests only done by fertility specialists or can a family doctor do them too?

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

They usually do the day 21 blood test (on 21st day of your cycle) to detect the progesterone levels in your body. That can tell that whether ovulation has occurred or not, you can always ovulate after that, OPKs are good afterwards to have a watch over your ovulation. You have irregular ovulation i guess, 30-45 days is still good, better than mine that usually goes upto 60 days araam se!

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

Being irregular doesn't mean you're not ovulating. Having periods USUALLY suggests ovulation. And as AE said, bloodwork gives further confirmation.

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

I am kind of getting nervous now as wed is approaching. I hope the treatment is effective and we manage to conceive soon! I know chips said that patience is important but...........

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

Hey AE, been there done that. Listen, just take it one day at a time and try not to stress. Stress contributes to your problems. Just have faith. I know it can be frustrating and disheartening, but here are my tips from a dad's perspective:

Involve your husband, let him take some of the burden.
Keep an open mind and have a sense of humor about things

God willing it WILL happen for you too and when it does, you will look at these trying times and say to yourself "it was all worth it".

God bless and God speed.

Re: First visit to fertility clinic!

If you go to an RE, they shoudl be monitoring you periodically by bloodwork and ultrasound for up until you ovulate. They measure follicle size, thickness of lining and hormone levels. usually, every month after your cycle is over, you should have a review meeting with ur RE to discuss whats going on and how to proceed.
