Take prenatal vitamins and omega 3. Talk to your doctor about recommendations.
Avoid soft cheeses and unpasteurized cheeses.
Avoid raw foods, smoked meats, and deli meats -- anything that is not fully cooked.
Eat foods rich in folic acid, iron, and omega 3. Eat lots of spinach, broccolli, apples, etc. Eat lots of fruits and veggies.
I had bad nausea and frequent vomiting. I couldn't be around desi food at all. Water was very hard to consume. I tried juices and popsicles, but I still wasn't getting enough water. I craved melons and other juicy fruits.
If nausea gets bad, people recommend crackers. I did that for a bit, but for much of the first trimester I was eating Cheerios constantly.
