first time retin A cream user

I am intending to use Retin A cream just for more improvements and its benefits but I am afraid of the break out,

I would love to listen reviews from anyone who is using .025% retin A cream for the first time and when did it show its effects like people started noticing

Moreover how many times I should use it initially?

Re: first time retin A cream user

I started using it with a 2 to 3 day break between applications and have not changed the method because I feel it's working. I use it at night, the next morning I don't see anything happening but the morning after, some of my facial areas seem to be dry and peeling - this is good. I just moisturise well and go about my business. Once the peeling has stopped, the skin looks smoother. It has definitely improved the beginnings of fine lines on the sides of my upper lip. The couple of times I've tried to use it more frequently, I've developed a large and very stubborn pimple/cyst. So then I just take a break for about 2 to 3 weeks. I'm happy using it not too frequently because I'd rather not the get the pimples since maintaining my clear skin is more important to me.

But everyone is different, some people don't notice anything even using this strength everyday.

Just pay close attention to what is happening and listen to your skin.

Re: first time retin A cream user

Breaking out initially is common when using Retin A b/c of the idea that the skin is "purging". There's not way to predict whether or not it'll happen to you.

In the beginning when I started with the .025% RA, I mainly experienced dryness. Use it only at night. I could say start off with using it 2x/week. After 4-6 weeks, if you skin is tolering it well, then up that to 3x/week.

Please don't forget to use a good quality sunscreen during the day. Retin A makes your skin super sensitive and you'll be at a higher risk for hyperpigmentation.

** If you do a search, thera are tons of other threads on this. :)

Re: first time retin A cream user

Hey Paheli,

Why don't you consider making a sticky thread about Retin-A and peels. Perhaps pull together a couple of the threads with your very informative posts on the two topics which will make up the first few pages? Then in future, any posts such as the above can just be posted there so that all the questions and answers are in one place.

thank you so much stoppit and paheli, I was sure to get reply of paheli by the way.:biggthumb:

Re: first time retin A cream user

You're right Stoppit. :) There should be stickes on RA and peels. I'll go through the various threads and in a day or two, make sticky threads on this topic.

Re: first time retin A cream user

Can a product with tretinoin in it be used as a substitute to Retin A? like Acretin 0.025%?
