Jaya is much better than anything Pakistan has presently got.
This is going off topic.
I know reading from your posts that Javed is one of your all time favourite players. There is no doubt he was a genuine World class batsman and played according to the needs of the situation. There is no debate about this.
However, you always bring his name up in such discussions; don't you think the World has produced other batsmen who were better than him and certainly had more flair and more exciting to watch?
Miandad was versatile as well. He could adapt his game i.e. defend immaculately or accelerate according to the situation. As long as he was at the crease no matter what the match situation we always knew Pakistan was still in the game and more often than not he did not disappoint the team. He was just very dependable.
Although I did not admire some of his on-field shenanigans, Miandad was a very shrewd reader of the game. He had great presence of mind, knew exactly what the asking rate was, where all the fielders were positioned etc.
Among his contemporaries I would rate only Viv Richards above Miandad because he was simply awesome and very destructive. Gavaskar and Miandad though were better than Viv in pressure situations. Viv's attacking game was just not suited to situations where you had to really graft to save the game.
Tendu, Lara and Ponting are all great players but it is really unfair to compare batsmen from different generations......rules have changed, pitches are more batsman-friendly, no covered pitches, some of the sting has been taken out of fast bowling with the one bouncer per batsman per over rule, neutral umpires in tests, more use of technology in matches etc.
And it is not just my opinion. Imran called him 'great' in his autobiography 'AllRound View'. Holding called him a 'genius' in his book 'Whispering Death.' Botham and Viv Richards both spoke very highly of him.

Sohail Khan unlucky again. This was out. Hit him right in front of Off-stump, both middle & leg stumps were showing. Unlucky!
105.3 Sohail Khan to Samaraweera, 1 leg bye, close shout for lbw, full outside off stump and swinging in sharply, walked across to flick that towards midwicket, was struck just in line of the off stump, the umpire Steve Davis probably thought he was hit just outside. Very close call that but Sohail should consider himself unlucky

Typical sub-continental Test Match in progress. Only good for bastmen to further their personal records.
Isn't this the same track where teams regularly notched up 300+ scores in the ODIs in the Asia Cup a few months ago.

:D... you can bet on SL bowlers capabilities at this moment.....Its highly likely that Pakistan could be bowled twice under score of 600... Only a miracle from Misbah,Younis, or others could save the match as draw...

^ I am sure they will be ok and save the match and have such a strong batting line up including Faislal Iqbal who no doubt has been coached by his famous uncle and the fact they are playing in Karachi.
