**A young woman has become the first person to die from swine flu in the Republic of Ireland.**She had serious underlying medical problems and died in Tallaght Hospital in Dublin on Friday afternoon.
She is the first person to die of swine flu since cases were initially reported in the Republic in May.
The Department of Health in the Republic had warned in recent weeks that deaths from swine flu were “inevitable”.
Eighteen people remain in hospitals in the Republic, including three people who are being treated in intensive care units.
