First Nations girl chooses traditional medicine over chemo

First Nations girl chooses traditional medicine over chemo****: Do you believe that she and her parents are making the right decision? (The article does a good job in explaining both sides of the argument.)

Re: First Nations girl chooses traditional medicine over chemo

Choosing alternative medicine over chemo isn’t that uncommon.. I’ve heard of others doing it when chemo has become too difficult/painful for them..

‘Makayla was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January. Her doctors told her family that she would have a 75 per cent chance of survival if she continued treatment. If not, they warned that her situation could become dire.’

**‘“I am writing this letter to tell you that this chemo is killing my body and I cannot take it anymore,” she wrote to her doctors at the McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton.’
**
If the bit in bold is true I don’t blame them, even tho I personally might not agree with it.. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to this kind of thing..

Does anyone else have an opinion on this story? Should an individual’s cultural, spiritual and/or religious beliefs take precedence over science and medicine, when it comes to a life and death situation? Also, since Makayla is only 10 years old, is she even old enough to make such a big decision for herself?
