Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
i think you most of you guys are being quite rude and ungrateful
the point is that someone who is openly muslim was elected to congress...that's a big deal
you don't know the first thing about his iman or anything else
i think it's a good day for us
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
OG stop raining on our parade ![]()
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Let me put this discussion into perspective. Nation of islam is a racist and a racial separatist organization. It is not the same as Islam. Its members are not muslims. Please dont confuse a racial-political organizations whos teaching are against core islamic beliefs with the religion Islam.
If Keith Ellison was a true Muslim he would be kicked out of the Nation of Islam just like Malcolm X was.
So please dont start thinking that a muslim was elected into congress. Regardless of what his name, if was a true Muslim, even with a name like John Smith, he would never made it to the congress.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Anyone see Conan O Brien, he was like so first ever Muslim elected to congress, and one person clapped, and their was an awkward pause and than they started clapping altogether, that shows how Americans feel about Muslims.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
The Muslim who won the election supports gay rights. How do you feel about him now?
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
When u live in a secular country, you have to, otherwise people view you as a hateful bigot. But when your anti-muslim, ur a patriot.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Just like your a hero if you declare Jihad on the west in Muslim countries ehh?
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Lol dude, how many muslims do u actually believe think or feel like that? They may not like western countries (and this isn't just limited to muslims) , but they do not think of doing anything like that, I think ur a little confused, alright man, oki doki...I may have overexaggerated in my previous post if that was the point your making.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Keith Ellison - how refreshing to see a Muslim who doesn't feel like he needs to succumb to the cultural 'rule' of changing to an Arabic name. I'd vote for him just for that.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
^LoL, his plan worked out, if he had a muslim name, no chance in hell would he have won, but now people know he will not win reelection, anyways we don't know if he is a practicing muslim, this doesn't make much of a difference, just for more diversity in politics, other than the majority middle aged white christian/jewish always getting elected.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
You mean an Arabic name, don’t you? It is a cultural practice to have an Arabic name, just like dress and facial hair. And who is anyone to judge his level of Muslim-ness?
But yeah, let’s put all the blame on Americans for being leary of a Muslim-sounding name. Wonder where in the world that nervousness comes from?:halo:
But by all means change your name, dress and anything else that separates you from the kafir and then complain about being discriminated against.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Not all Muslims have "Arabic" names, esp people from Pakistan/India keep names which have good meanings.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
My point was that they wouldn't have voted for a person who had a muslim sounding name.
And itt comes from the media, if they were to visit a muslim country which isn't being occupied, they would know the truth about Muslims. Seminole so how many muslims have you met that are the way the world percieves them to be? And if this is acceptable, why can't Muslims percieve Americans by what they are doing in the middle east, and not be labelled terrorists?
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Well, now its two Pakistanis that have managed gain political posts... Another guy in Maryland aswell... Will put a link tp him a little later.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Glad you got my point.
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
errr well one can be muslim and not have an arabic name, the words are shared between urdu and arabic so Pakistani names are from urdu language. Now surely you are not suggesting that one has to change their name to joe bob, or give up qorma and kababs for meatloaf and tuna casserole to avoid discrimination and gain acceptance? ![]()
PS: arab christians have araic names too..one well known example of that is tariq aziz.. ya know the iraqi dude..has the same name as a popular pakistai game show host..former is a christian arab, latter is a pakistani muslim
Re: First Muslim Congressman elected in USA
Barack Hussein Obama. So what.

But born and bred Americans don't have Arabic names. I'm not suggesting someone has to change his name to get a job, but I'm also suggesting someone doesn't have to change his name to be a Muslim. And if you've eaten meatloaf your whole life (assuming it wasn't made w/ground pork), you don't have to eat kababs to be a Muslim either.
