I don’t deal with these issues on this site anymore but this is an event that was held on Sunday, 6/9/02 (9/6/02 for European and Asian Pakistanis). I thought about posting these many times and then decided against it. But tonight I have decided to post the pics.
The gathering was held at the Cowboys Stadium. Repotedly, around 10,000 Muslims atteneded the program. I had taken off work and attended with my family. We came across some acquaintences. We were there for over 6 hours in scortching heat but it was all well worth the effort. The organizers had called in political candidates from ALL parties. These candidates were contesting seats from country clerks to state judges. This was the first ever gathering of this type, according to the organizers, which would later be replicated elsewhere if the factors are in their favor.
This is early in the program… place is slowly beginning to fill up. There are political, civic, social issues tables setup on the grounds and around the sides.

I also didn't that there were that many people. But they also sold tkts for kids older then ~12 or 13. So, the skewed the numbers. And the event lasted for over 6 hours under open sun. There was some shade around the sides. When we were there, the temps. were around 95+. It was pretty hot. They also had announced free buffet. But the food ran out far earlier then anticipated.
hanie - The event was to introduce the Muslim voters to the politicians running for various offices. It was the first time for 30+ politicians who came to see so many Muslims in one place within Texas. It was also a known factor that there were CIA and FBI in the crowd, a fact the many politicians uttered.
I think you would find most of the muslims are at airport checkouts getting harassed by FBI agents thats y tunout does’nt look all good here at voter registration!

Dallas County Commissionar. He was an unexpected entrant. Wasn’t even on the speakers’ list. Gave the most fiery speach. Everyone was very impressed by his speach.

One other thing: People were coming and going. Very few people stayed for longer then an hour or two. I saw a constant stream of people coming into the stadium and leaving.
That’s a good question, CH. I guess it was the fact that this was a drive where the most Muslims have come together on a give day and time for a voter registration drive. The format of the event was certainly the first and the most exciting that I have read about or ever seen. It was the effort of many local area and national orgs. to bring their efforts together under one roof. I guess that when they hold their next event in a big city like N.Y. or Chicago then, certainly, a lot more people would show up and, I hope, that makes for some nationally “sensational” news.
