LAHORE: Muhammad Adnan Sarwar from Lahore, who broke into the international racing scene by competing in kart races in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with XVRacing Karting Pakistan, has been invited by A1 Grand Prix Team Pakistan for a test drive.
This makes him the first Pakistani born and trained driver in the history of motorsports to be asked to test for a seat in an international formula championship. The A1 Grand Prix Series, founded by Sheikh Maktoum of UAE, is the World Cup of motorsports. The Bank Alfalah-supported driver will be tested at Zhuhai International Ciruit in China on a 2006 Formula Renault race car. The Renault cars are 200bhp machines with the capability of achieving speeds of up to 200 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
Whereas this is a historic event for Pakistan, it is also a personal landmark for Adnan. “I hope to perform at par with the expectations placed on me,” he says. The three-day testing sessions will begin in China shortly and are being conducted by ART Motorsports under the supervision of former French formula driver Phillepe Descombes. A1 GP Pakistan Team Chairman Arif Hussain has termed this event a proud moment for the country and an indicator of a modern, progressive Pakistan.
