Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!

Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
Lets all celebrate just because he was muslim?
Lets all celebrate just because he was muslim?
that wasn't the intention of the thread... I just wanted to congratulate the couple of ppl from Bahrain on this board, and I posted an observation about the other participants in the race. Jeez!
Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
^^ Ahh I see :)
Congrats to Bahranians (I didn't expect to see any on here, I guess you meant Desis in Bahrain). Congrats to USA and GB desis as well for all the gold medals their countries got. And so on.
Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
Tiny nations are doing so good at Beijing! And alas we are far far behind.

yes - from what I know, we have two members with ties to Bahrain.
USA, GB et al. don't get the same type of congrats thread cuz it's not as special as winning your nation's first ever Olympic medal.

True that... I can sort of understand that Pakistan doesn't have the level of support required for more intense sports like swimming and various athletics categories but I just don't get why Pakistan can't feature more prominently in events like Weightlifting, Wrestling, Shooting etc. which are less resource intensive to pursue.
Lets all celebrate just because he was muslim?
Sorry to say but its Pakistani absurdity to bring religion into games and sports. I hardly see anyother people doing so. Pakistan hockey teams raise religious slogan even when they play Malaysia, Egypt and Oman.
Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
Over last 61 years we have substantially declined: In London 1948 313 atheletes from Pakistan took part and in 2008 they were only 21 players, I think.
Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
^ may be by doing this they think their lost can be delayed by couple more minutes.
Re: First ever Olympic medal for Bahrain - Gold!
may b someone actually lost a coin there ![]()
It is a question of what we value. As Pakistanis we value power and $ more than acheivement. There are Pakistani who can compete in sports at the international level. For example, in shooting look at this Pakistani guy in the USA in 2008:
There have been the Hashim Khans and Imran Khans. However, as a people we dont value these people.
