First Dolby movie to be produced in Pakistan

Not one, ladies and gentlemen, but TWO.

Javed Sheikh and Shehzad Gul running the Dolby race

No cooling down yet dearies. In fact, the heat is very much on in tinsel town if we are to go by the major showdown that is being predicted between two Lollywood giants. It seems Javed Sheikh and Shehzad Gul are on a collision course. There is said to be a mad dash between Sheikh and his upcoming shot-in-Spain magnum opus and Shehzad and his ‘Chalo Ishq Larain.’ Both movies are being made with ‘Dolby Sound’ and thus both the makers are vying to release his flick first so as to bag the distinction of Pakistan’s first Dolby sound movie.
It is heard that Shehzad Gul has already selected a release date, April 5, for his movie and so the filmy Sheikh is also planning to release his venture on the same date too. Let’s see which way the wind ultimately blows, but for now better protect yourself from the hot draft emanating from this simmering rivalry.

-The News, instep

I think Pakistani movies did have Dolby sound from the days of Nazar Shabab et all..

it must be Dolby Digital i presume.

There is No Spoon

yeah it is dolby digital , sorry

That's a great news. However, if the theatres are not well equipped to deliver Digital Surround Sound, then the sound quality in the movies does not have any effect. But, definitely step in a right direction.

Some of the theatres are dolby surround, but I doubt if any of them is 5.1, atleast not in Islamabad/Rawalpindi...

hmm I believe our theaters are equipped with Dolby Digital decoders, at least the ones that show the English flicks.. some may even have DTS!

There is No Spoon

well a little search on the DTS website gives

Faisalabad Nageena Cinema

Karachi Capri Cinema

Karachi Nishat Cinema

Karachi Star Cinema

Lahore Gulistan Cinema

Lahore Plaza Cinema

Lahore Sozo World

Rawalpindi Ciros Cinema

as the theaters equipped with DTS Sound.

Surprisingly Pakistan is a glaring omission in the list of countries on Dolby's website for Dolby capable theaters!!

Haha! Go to Ciros Cenima in Pindi! Itnaa dhuaan hota hay kay one even cant even see the movie. How can one enjoy Dolby Digital sound on phatti purani seats and stinky theatres! The crowd is very bad too where the clap and whistle when they see Madr e Millat Fatimah Jinnah on screen during the Qaumi Tarana.

I'd much rather enjoy a movie in the comfort of my own home even with boot legged copies than go watch a movie in Ciros Cinema in Pindi!

I dont know...I saw the Jinnah movie in Karachi on one of those aforementioned cinemas and the sound was decent to me.

Theek hai, it wasn't a Muvico, but it was good.

But Definitely, they need to build new theatres or renovate and reequip the ones we aleady have

Aray! tum main se kabhi koi Prince Cinema ya Bambino nahin aaya…aisay aisay ‘Shahkar’ flicks lagte hain ke hadd he nahin!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/hehe.gif

But decent family cinemas, lead from the front by Capri and Nishat, are DTS-equipped. Abdullah…yes 5.1 it is…separate stereo channels…kallo gal!

Kambakht Ishq!

Pakistani abroad, your information is incorrect. I have been to Ciros Rawalpindi lots of times, trust me, its not DTS. DTS has sound coming in from 6 channels, and the one in Ciros has two channels only. So they have Dolby surround and to be honest, its pretty old now. Apart from this you cannot sit in Ciros for 2 or 3 hours. For some reason, they print DTS and DolbySurround everytime they post an ad in the newspapers.

Nageena cinema in Faisalabad is not DTS. I dont know about the ones in Karachi, as I have never been to them.

Spock

DTS started with a DTS-S (Stereo) but quickly moved into DTS-6 (six channel discrete)

The movie running has a lot to do with the kind of sound you hear. The print you heard may not have had a digitally encoded soundtrack in the first place or no DTS track but a Dolby Digital or SDDS track or most probably Dolby Surround which you heard.

The DTS website probably lists theaters if they have purchased a DTS decoder. I'm pretty sure the theater must have bought some kind of equipment to appear on that list and be able to advertise the logo.

Nobody checks up on advertisements in Pakistan -- they can false advertise all they want, no one says anything to them.

At least, that is what the situation appears to be.

You're right PCG, but DTS could be aware of their existance only by means of a sale of some hardware of theirs.

Whether they are using it or not is anybody's guess.

You might be right, Ciros definitely has a 2 channel Dolby system, however Im sure its not 6.

The cinema adz in the papers are so appauling!! It says, DTS, Dolby Digital, THX all three in one film

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

And besides, those adz need to be properly censored, since most of the stuff being shown on the cinema is rubbish.

hate to go all nerdy on you but it's possible.

Dolby Digital is encoded on the actual print. DTS occupies much more space hence is shipped in the form of an accompanying CD with the actual soundtrack on it.

THX is just a certification so it can accompany either variety.

Technically, the ad isn't lying.

Well, Ciros, which gives all three ads (THX, DTS, Dolby Digital) has just two speakers, on the left and the right, so it cannot be 5.1...

The only decent cinema in Islamabad, "Nafdec" where families usually come has the worst sound system. When they showed "Jinnah", one could hardly understand the speech. It would be a great idea to upgrade that theater as thats the only cinema in the city where the atmosphere is good, and you can actually enjoy a movie.

This is all about Islamabad/Rawalpindi, I would like to know about the state of the theaters from someone who lives in Lahore or Karachi and has some fair knowledge about DTS or Dolby Digital.

I've been to all of the ones listed above located in Karachi and the sound was pretty good.

Not as good what you get in the US at Muvico theatres of course, but I saw Jinnah there and the sound wasn't that bad as it seems u experienced in Islamabad.
