How many of you guys go regulary to firm outings / trips ? We have this weekend trip starting on friday and ending on sunday, once in two years. It is a great opportunity to relax and try out many things.. sport, like golf, horse riding, water sport, tracking, cycling or wandering round in the beautiful hilly area ..or just relaxing in the hotel resort area with all the entertainments and the activities.
Its also a nice time to spend time with your colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. We have an average of 400 people going each time.
Do you accompany your company or do you not join such events ? and your reasons for going or not going.

In the states, company outings are done during work hours and only last a day at the maximum. Never have had any weekend outing with co-workers. We usually go out for golfing, picnicing, out-door games, museums, or movies. Campings are usually done with a friend, friends or family.
Firm outings aren't really big where I work, every now and then someone will try to organise one but so far there hasn't been one event where everyone has gone. The general consensus has been that no one liked being obliged to attend.
We have an annual event called Kick Off. Usually that`s a 2-day trip to a nice quiet place somewhere in Austria.
The Kick Off for the Fiscal Year 04 was last week (Thursday, Friday) in Semmering (Steiermark). First day was packed with presentations and the second day was for fun. This time I chose to play golf. There were some other alternatives too though.
I enjoyed it and so far I have attended every Kick Off since I joined the company.
