Firefox - Memory hog

Have you guys noticed how much memory gets used up by Firefox. For that reason a ton of people have moved away from FF. I’m still lagging behind on doing that. Although I do use Chrome for all the Google service but my primary browser is still FF.

I just found an add-on for Firefox for Windows. Its called Memory Fox and can be found on the FF Add-ons page (download here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/memory-fox/).
This is what they have to say:

“Attempting to reduce the browser’s RAM Memory usage promoting the increase of available RAM memories for other application processes RAM memory requirements. Hopefully, fostering any attempts of Memory Recovery and Retention.”

Test it out.

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

I was a hardcore FF user until 6 months ago when I switched to Chrome and haven’t looked back since. I still do miss some of the extensions in FF that made my life easier (the main one being FireFTP), but I’m making do without them.

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

nice

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

This doesn’t work on Mac’s. But memory hoarding is not that bad with FF.

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

This is the only reason why I and many more stopped using it.

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

i also switched to chrome due to load of memory usage by FF. :@:

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

i switched due to the same reason. Chrome’s a whole lot faster too and i love the direct search engine in the link bar :k:

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

yeah that is what is usually do. it is cool to use same address bar for both (web address, and web search)

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

I dont know why but FF version 4 and beyond suffer from this memory thing. Chrome on the other hand is very light.

Re: Firefox - Memory hog

The average memory usage by F on my laptop is 500MB. I installed FF 7 and still the same. I am so used to FF that I can’t use any other browser.
