Fire in self cleaning oven

Have any of you had a fire while your oven was on self-clean mode? I used the option today and noticed a tiny flame in my oven after a few minutes. I immediately shut the whole thing off . There was a little bit of food spill in there which ignited I guess. I’m not comfortable using this feature anymore if theres a possibility of this happening.

If I’m supposed to scrub the oven before using this feature, whats the point of having a self-clean oven anyway :S ? I’m, too scared to use it now.

I guess there must be some oil drops in your oven, which caught fire because of the high heat. Just wipe it clean of any oil residue before using the self cleaning feature. The self cleaning feature is nothing more than the oven working on high heat, burning up all the gunk.
