To my knowledge most Sunni Muslims in the sub continent are Hanafi (correct me if i am wrong), what I am curious to know is what is the geographic distribution of fiqhs, are some areas of the Muslim world more likely to be Hanbali or Shafi? If so what are Turks & Albanians?..what about Morrocon and Indonesians?
Re: Fiqhs & Geography
From my knowledge
Hanbali Fiqh is concentrated concentrated in Central Arabia.
Maliki Fiqh dominates Western Arabia and North Africa
Shafi Fiqh dominates Malaysia, Indonesia and parts of West Africa.
Hanafi Fiqh is the the largest. It dominates Turkey and the regions to which Turks introduced Islam, such as Albania and Bosnia. It also dominates the Indian subcontinent and has a large following in West Africa.
Re: Fiqhs & Geography
Hmm so why is it in that post about circumcision in Iraq ..Kurds were cited as Shafis?
Re: Fiqhs & Geography
It’s not about one fiqh being exclusive to a region. You get a particular fiqh being predominancet in a region, but always there exceptions.
You’ll notice that i didn’t actually specify a particular fiqh for the region between the mediterranean and Iraq. That whole place is a mixture.
