I was amazed to hear about this. I can’t deny that the Desi/Asian method of extreme studying also works (albeit at the expense of the child’s sanity and social well being), but this system rivals that. What say you? Is this just hippie talk? Do we need the extreme competition that many students are subjected to?

Re: Finland’s Revolutionary Education System
Competitive educational environment actually do more harm than good. It hinders children natural abilities / interest and try to fit every child into one mold. Finland’s example is often used in child development classes and many child care center in the United States have started to exersice the Reggio Emilias’ approach in their centers. But Desi and Asian parents are the ones who like to see strict curriculum and standardize testing to measure their child’s “intelligence".
I wish that the next government in Pakistan put an emphasis on revolutionizing the education system and follow the example of Finland.
Re: Finland's Revolutionary Education System
Hit the nail on the head. Find your passion and go and do that. If you dont enjoy what you do, ur never gonna be good at it. Dont know about america but when i was at school i had to study a whole bunch of subjects i had no interest in. Surprise surprise i was just barely passing them and the ones i enjoyed I was getting As and Bs. Which leads me to my next point, you see all these kids coming out of school and being forced to go into medicine or do something that they dont enjoy by desi parents. And then they sit there and wonder why thier kids are consistently failing at school or university. Although thats a topic for another day
Re: Finland's Revolutionary Education System
competing with others is the dumbest thing on earth. surely there are other ways to validate your capabilities and intelligence.
Re: Finland’s Revolutionary Education System
A very interesting book (The Underground History of American Education) written on this topic by John Taylor Gatto. After reading this book I decided to homeschool my kids.
