do u all think there’s a fine lien between being confident enough to poke fun at yourself and letting others tease and joke about u, vs just putting yourself down?
or does it all depend on the person interpreting it?

Re: Fine line
I think it’s a perspective.
There are people who don’t mind others making jokes about them but when it gets nasty they step in and take control. However, display of a poor self image is a different thing like self doubt, considering oneself a failure, self pity, victimization…
Am I off topic
??
Re: Fine line
Poking fun at yourself i think is when maybe someone teases you and you're able to have a laugh about it and interject a thing or two about yourself too without feeling bad. Putting yourself down is when you're just all around negative, there's no hope there, no ability to laugh about something and move on, what you're saying about yourself nags at you and bothers you and can be seen by others too.
Did that make any sense?
Re: Fine line
You normally vary the boundaries depending on who is doing it.
Re: Fine line
yep i think there's a big difference
if someone else says something and you laugh it off... that's confidence...and it's really nice when people are confident enough to take a joke instead of getting hurt
but if someone just complains about themselves even if jonkingly and others disagree then that would be interpreted as low self-esteem
i have a friend who can't even accept a compliment without letting everyone know how low her self-esteem really is... even though she is very pretty, tall, thin etc...
Re: Fine line
Do not allow others to make you feel bad about you or anything about you...an occasional joke here and there is fine though. You should have the ability to laugh at yourself sometimes but understand when you're being put down.
I see no difference between either of the above. They’re all forms of being put down - either by yourself or somebody else. None of them are cool. All such phrases or ‘jokes’ should be discouraged - since they’re about you - they all have an impact on how you think at the end of the day.
