Hi everyone,

I am in the exact same position as Punjabi Rose - only difference I live in the other side of the world - Australia.

Urban Design Concepts - Kulsoom the lady is very prompt and helpful with replies on email and I have spoken to her on the phone too. I am thinking of buying few of my Jehaz clothes from her - but when it comes to Bridal outfit, it’s that perfect Red that I have always imagined and because I can’t go to Pak I feel so disheartened and quite stressed about it.

On the UDC website - I have seen her bridal outfit but none that I can actually pic for my wedding.

HSY and Karma seem a bit out of my budget. My family lives in Khi and from my research I have heard Shakeel, Mohsin & Rhim Jhim are good. The only problem is only the top notch designers in Pakistan have websites in which they post only selected styles they have sigh and places like Mohsin Rhim Jhim they just dont have websites, and no way of contacting them to email me through some pictures.

So I am putting it out there, if anyone knows any one who works in those type of stores, or can give me a contact email/phone of them I’ll really be interested.

My budget is at 1.5 Lakhs at its absolute maximum..

I saw her stuff in person when she was in houston last year and her bridals were really nice, lovely quality of material and work. my cousin rabia ended up buying a suit she wore to her court ceremony reception (the real wedding took place like 6 months after it so..) anyhow it was lovely i myself was about to buy the same outfit. and kulsoom is bossy and a bit big headed but her work is worth the attitude so go for it.

I really did like alot of her stuff and will probably get a few fancy joras from her for jahaiz outfits… but her bridal collection is so tiny on the website… like less than 10 dresses??! And nothing caught my eye for a baraat outfit… same as Zainy says…

but thanks for your feedback Sweethunnie I wish I lived closer to you and Rabia and the three of us could go shopping together or something. I’m sure it would alleviate some of this stress!

Do you not have bridal shops there? or made to measure shops?

IF you know how your bridal should be take it to them they can make it to your choice…

I personally don’t think emphasising on going to pakistan should dishearten you. Pakistan is not the be all and end all. I have see more RUBBISH lengha’s from there in weddings in London , some of them are so plain , or weird in the kaam. ( and people have laughed and thought what the hell with a long kameez, and simple string pendant set at the wedding i went to recently where as i thought she looked STUNNING and her jora was a Karma bridal but unless you follow pak fashion it isn’t happening!)

Designers such as HSY, Bunto kazmi work in Pakistan because of the culture, it looks beautiful against a pakistani wedding in PAKISTAN. You cannot mimick that wedding just like you cannot mimick a London wedding in Pakistan ( however hard you try) .

To be honest attending all the weddings here, all the bridal shops here that i have been to none of them push forward the long kameez lengha , because the only cultural thing that people abroad ( Uk , USA etc) can keep alive is the pakistani wedding culture. So mehendi’s, mayoons, barat , walima rasms etc… and they keep it alive based on tradition, so traditional lengha’s , traditional big gold jewellery sets etc.

Where as in pakistan its easy to follow fasion, as its created there, darzi’s are at your door step, weddings are MUCH MUCH easier there, wearing simple jewellery sets and designers… if you asked a british pakistani who bunto was she’d look at you like WHO?? …

In London for example there are places like Chands, Kirans, Saima Hussain, Ekta Solanki, Mona Vora … pakistani people from pakistan wouldn’t have a clue who they are!

So seriously stop depressing yourself and get a move on. … Rant over!

P.S to make people cringe, patiala shalwars and short kameez’s are still the fashion trend here!!

Ok - im not depressing myself… im stressing about this because this is a one time shot.. One dress for a very big moment in my life. And i frankly do not care about pakistani designers and such myself… if i had found my dream jora at Anarkali bazaar… then great. If I had the time and had something made myself … great. But the point you are missing is that I do not have these options anymore.

No - i do not live close to any desi shops. We are talking hours and hours worth of driving …and for what? Indian clothing? Sorry - i’m not the biggest fans of the styles that they have out here. And no one does customization.

I am going to go to Deeba’s of Rani Emaan and see if she has something in my budget. That will be great.

But my options are very limited and I do care about is finding and wearing my dream wedding dress … which would have been an easier feat if I could have gone to Pakistan.

Trust me… i’m not causing a fuss over some small easy fix. If it were - i would not be on here asking my fellow guppans for advice and help and tips!!

The “rubbish” lehngas that u see worn by brides are of their own choice. Or their mothers choice or whatever. main point: the dress is someone’s choice.

… i’m struggling with finding a way to find my “choices”.

And I happen to luv fashion in general and do follow the Pakistani fashion… so yea… ofcourse I am going to feel a bit sad and stressed about not going to Pakistan.
