Dalip Singh finally made his debut in WWE by storming Undertaker to his knees on April 7. Standing at 7’3 with 420 pounds Dalip is one of the biggest Wrestler of all time in WWE.
Born in a farmer family of Himachal Pradesh Dalip was a road labourer in his teens. He was already 6 and a half feet tall when a seneor police officer of Punjab spotted him and helped him joining Police Force. With the help from one of India’s Health Suppliment maker Tara Fitness Products, Dalip entered in Bodybuilding and was crowned Mr India three times.
He is already a pupular figure in Japan because of his extra ordinary shows in World Wrestling in Tokyo in 1997-99.
He is also a known figure in US due to his Hollywood debut film ‘The Longest Yard’.
This guy is really a monster. After some failure debuts of Indian Wrestelers in WWE in past years, this man seems to be a succesful one.](“The Great Khali | WWE”)
Make sure to turn the volume all the way up and listen in closely when he cuts his promo. Dalip talks in Hindi.
Just this past week before his match with Funaki at the backstage proceedings as the latter was about to cut his promo, these two came on camera as Dalip said "Funaki Betey, mein hoon Khali".
Although, I admit, the first time I saw him was two weeks ago, a week after he came on the scene with the Undertaker. As I was sitting four rows in front of him watching in awe as his huge monster stood right in front of me, I had absolutely no clue what he said on the mic. Only later did I get to watch the tape, I realized it was Hindi and enjoyed it thoroughly for once. His voice is extremely thick and you can barely hear him inside the arena (the brand-name microphones that WWE uses don't help this cause, either). But, in any case, I was extremely glad to see him make his debut. Months before he signed his contract with the company, there were reports of him making headlines as he has participated in over 250 tournaments so far in Japan, the United States and in Mexico and won about 200 matches. His first loss was in a tag match at the Tokyo Dome in January 2002. The 31-year old wrestler says that it was not easy for him to reach where he has today.
You could call him a monster of a man. Dalip is a sight to behold, one of the tallest men in wrestling history. Now only if either him or Big Show could be drafted within an inch of each other, I think we could have one of the biggest "big-man" matches of all time. He weighs in 420 pounds, and Show is right-around 500 (Never trust the figures they tell you. It is, more or less, an exaggeration). I can imagine him and Show, standing corner to corner facing each other. That would make for one heaven of a PPV match. If they build it nice and slow, the buyrates would shoot through the roof.
Sometimes I dream of standing in that squared circle alone all my myself for straight 60 seconds with my eyes closed and a sense of refreshment while grasping the crowd excitement and cheers in one breath. It is not an easy task, mind you. While we, as fans, seem to think that what they do in that alloted time of roughly 5-7 minutes is all they can "actually" accomplish in real-life, any such assumption is simply wrong. Being on the road approximately 300 days a year is not a walk in the park.
Just this past week before his match with Funaki at the backstage proceedings as the latter was about to cut his promo, these two came on camera as Dalip said "Funaki Betey, mein hoon Khali".
This is true, i too hear the same when he interrepeted Funaki's interview while i was watching TV. To make sure what i heard i logged-on to WWE.com/videos. He speaks in hindi maximum, may be he like speaking hindi somewhat. Cant say thou. Great, he took his local language to WWE's arena !
When Dewari was introducing him to the audience he said smthing like that:
"Main hoon Khali...
You remember me last time....
Hooaaa (voice too thick and mic too close)
I am Khali"
One has to keep in mind though, it is not an everyday instance where all the big men who have been tried and tested in the squared circle have been all that, well, impressive, to say the least. I, for one, am expecting a tirade of squash matches and maybe a one or two "big man" matches, because as history states, that is exactly what they can accomplish on their own. Wrestling skills is and will never be not equal to entertainment, and my assumption is that this is precisely what that pathetic no-good Vince's right-hand creative team had in mind when they incorporated this big giant into the company. More and more entertainment factor will be induced through the syringe and will be forced down the throats while the wrestling factor will be getting diminished every minute.
^ i think dhobi bhai you are getting a bit sentimental.
As you said entairtainment causing 'real' wrestling soft damages. Yes, they are. Infact thats what WWE is, E - entertainment. Getting me !
not WWF.
But it will be foolish to think that everything here is fake. Mankind was thrown-out from 15 foot steel cage by HHH in '01 during WH Championship. Human can get bored easily so they(WWE) have to introduce such things which may bound a person to open up its TV every time or even have a visit to the arena.
Thats the point!
Cheers!!!
Undertaker have a 16 years long WWE career. He never faced anything like Khali before. I am damn sure that dead man will comeup again and this time Khali gotta face some hard time in the ring.

Believe me, I am not getting sentimental at all. The day I started watching wrestling was the day I believed in the appreciation towards the 'wrestling' factor that was whole-heartedly put together back in the days of Hart, Michaels, Hogan, Rock and Austin, because quite simply, to sum up the abilities of five of these household names - not only they had the ability to entertain, day in and day out, but the fact of the matter is, they knew how to wrestle. And I am not talking about that ridiculous Batista/Cena-esque two body slams, a side slam and a spinebuster/pump your Nikes, throw your shirt in the crowd and pin your opponent in a space of ten seconds technique. I am strictly refering to a large capacity of suplexes, arm-drags, Irish Whips, submission holds and various other sorts of manuevers, which, when you did get a chance to ocassionally watch, literally seemed like you were present in an arena with the life being sucked out of their opponent as he went to sleep only for the referee to make the count which would result in giant cheers from the crowd as they would slowly return to their vertical base and run through the other end like a seesaw on fire. Even in the present era, you put a broom......a broom in front of wrestling machines of Angle and Benoit, and I guarantee you, either one will make a five-star match out of that broom, no holds barred, on any given day. These selective group of people mentioned above know how to wrestle and entertain at the same time, but there are a vast group of separate "entertainers" who know absolutely nothing more than to waste time, resources and money on National Television on a wrestling show, while conveniently drag in ratings but lower the overall value and viewer's interest that is attached to it. Take Wrestlemania 22 for instance. I am sure I am not the only one who noticed a pillow fight......A dog-gone pillow fight that was scheduled to take place AFTER the World Heavyweight Championship match. Utter nonsense, you agree? Do you see how does it conveniently undermines the value of the most coveted prize in the business? Are we realizing the fact that any such thing transpires into giant cable ratings even though there is no competition around? Now the talk has spread out into rehashing Diva Search 2006. Did we not get enough rubbish last year and the year before? God, I hope for a miracle before that minute runs through my screen.
There are two major wrestling fan groups that are divided across the globe. One which are known as "casual" fans - meaning that they get excited and jump around everytime they see a bunch of women running around in their bras and panties with pillows hanging from the place where their brains are supposed to be, or when the tag team championship belts are around the waist of a bunch of right-handed magicians who know absolutely nill......NILL on how to wrestle. Running around in green costumes with bandanas over their heads as they miserably fail every week in trying to get people excited over their entrance and childish poems is the least possible form of entertainment one can ever imagine, and realizing that such garbage will not go away anytime soon, I find myself having to force through two hours on a Monday night dealing with nonsensical rubbish, cartoonish program segments, promos that have been dealt with, time and time again, and Divas that are purely handed contracts to appear in the editions of Playboy, all in all whilst making the company's name more "famous".
But yes, I do watch it, every week, in the hopes that one day, one day Vince will come back to his senses and make us, the hardcore fans, proud for once by pronouncing wrestling as the main part of the show; by giving us something in return which the fans have been longing to witness in their lifetimes; by completing the seeds into fruitful trees and truly converting their entertainment factor by subsequently providing appropriate gimmicks to the people who are paid $1,500 for a show (minumim......It's a minimum) with no health benefits, those who are sick and tired of the owner's prejudice antics of providing the air time to only the top-tier of the industry, and those who pay everything out of their own pockets apart from their bare-minimum salaries and still have to provide food for their families every night, not to mention being on the road almost every night while doing so. Yes, I do carry that bag of hopes alongwith me, and I see a thin ray of light somewhere, somehow, that is still lit, where the faces of Hart/Austin/Rock are still shining across seven seas, giving us, the fans, another reason to waste two hours on a Monday Night.
I think I have officially lost my mind. Thankfully, Backlash starts in less than three hours, and Judgment Day is in another few weeks, where we will witness the self-proclaimed "Wrestling God" take the title from the underdog in order to defend it against RVD at ECW One-Night-Stand II, all in all while Mysterio is labeled as a "transitional champion." I will now take your permission to leave and shoot myself.
That pillow fight and WWE Diva hunt was totally bull$hit i agree. As far as real profession is concerned WWE has gone far places. WWE was known for some muscles and power battles among the wrestlers and the audience used to appreciate but now WWE has become a play you may never know what'll happen next infact you can not tell that will i be able to some hardcore fights tonight nah nah, there'd some another drama, Cena's Albem or yet another Diva search.
No denying the fact that WWE has lost its 'real value' but again they act extremely intelligent that what i'll say whenever i sit against my TV i'll have to be with it till the next week and i know that there might not be any match!
This is also a fact that wrestling has changed. I think either wrestlers have forgotten how to fight or they are simply mingling with each other showing their power-less stunts better to keep a hollywood movie in the box-office for a couple of months. I am really sick of watching these 10 seconds wrestling clips. They always make a disaster match with a big power againt a minnow newbie. I cant get what the hell people are paying for! to watch some blood screaming for the wrestler's head or they have too much of money and time that they cant get any better alternative for that.
I was a huge fan of The Rock in the '98-99 sessions and i know that i hardly missed any match of his. But again that f**ing style search entered, hollywood calling ! Rock left WWf and i stopped even watching that $hit! Well again i cant stop myself to see what's and who's next.
Like you i always hope that, that great wrestling era of The Ultimate Warrior to The Rock will come again and this time only wrestling will rule.
Nice post, Chander Kills. I see the extra "L" has been taken out. :)
Quite right, your analysis and thoughts, and I do agree with your general concensus. As far as the idea of promoting more entertainment and less wrestling on National Television is concerned, it was decided a couple of years ago (after the name change - from WWF to WWE) that instead of risking injuries, face short staff on-hand whilst paying the salaries when a superstar is sidelined with injury, Vince would promote the idea of less bumps and more "mat-wrestling", if you will. Last year, Paul London was one of the very first and few victims of his antics, as he was banned from doing his patented Shooting Star Press (especially after that nasty head injury he suffered as he landed viciously on his head, if you remember), with several others followed after. So, yes, mingling with each other is how I would have put it, too.
As far as the shock value, back in the Attitude era, you had shocks every single week. Every Monday we had shows filled with the likes of Venis making headlines with his gimmick and storylines and the audience cared for it, too. The audience cared, and they knew exactly to the point what was going on. Week after week, the images that were left on the brains as RAW would go off the air would still be fresh in the mind of an individual, and he/she knew exactly the status of wrestlers, whether that be curtain-jerkers, midcarders, or top-level superstars. Nowadays, we have this guy who can't wrestle to save his life embarrasing himself every week while 'spinning' his title, and the talks of the returning ANIMAL has just begun, as it is said that he is ready to make a comeback......May I quote......"with a bang." That 'roid-filled muscled freak who literally grasps for breath after speaking a bare naked complete sentence on the microphone and would consequently take long and hard breaths on mic will now be awarded......handed, HANDED the championship just because......hey, people like seeing "big men", right? That right there. "Big men".
But yes, returning back to the shock value, I still love WWE for throwing in a surprise here and there. The last time I thought I got ripped off (shock value exceeding 100 precentage) was when Triple H tapped out to Cena in the center of the stage at Wrestlemania, and my jaw dropped. Apart from this, instances such as Edge winning the title at New Year's Revolution and Michaels super-kicking Hogan (BAH GAWD!!! BAH GAWD!#! OH MAH GAWD$$$ GOOD GOD, NOOOO, NOOOOO, WHERE IN THE NAME OF THE LORD DID THAT COME FROM? BAH GAWD, NOOOOOOO - Good Ol' JR) were a few that provided the enormous shock values, as the viewer sitting in front of the TV was clueless as these events took place.
On another note, it is very pleasant to discuss wrestling events with you and a couple of other people alongwith as well. I enjoy such things very much, and it holds a rare and precious meaning into my life. :)
I dont think so bro !
If UT bounced back so quickly then the motive of intoducing Khali will get diminish. When i saw smackdown on friday Khali and Devari advanced to stage by declaring UT afraid from the great Khali and he avoid facing Khali due to his fear.
Khali crushed UT when after his fight with Mark Henry. I think the story of Khali and UT will result only and after the crushing defeat of one of them and i think it'll be UT this time. The dead man is wrestling from the last 16 years and if i am not wrong he is between 45-50 aged. As far as i think WWE is getting tired of advancing UT again and again.
"He's a soul, cant be defeated, dead man" etc etc. I m too getting so sick watching this white blooded beast again and again crushing and scaring more young and new wrestlers. Now this time i hope for a final settlement of UT in his grave by more powerful, much younger Khali and then this phenonmenon will certainly be accepted by all WWE lovers.

Well last time the biggest shocks for me was when Chris Benoit was defeated by JBL, Chavo was defeated by william(sorry i forgot his name) and Cena defeating tripple H after such a bloody 'war'.
Sometimes these 'delibrate' climaxes become so hard to swallow.
Are you refering to the cage match between Benoit and JBL for the US Title a couple of weeks ago?
And yes, Cena forcing Triple H to tap out was also one of the major upsets in recent memory.
I personally thought this was probably a given. Half of the world predicted a winner via foresight at least two weeks ahead of the actual match before it was announced (Foley’s weekly blog posted at the company’s website hinted at a possible match with Edge before they faced each other on National Television on ‘The Cutting Edge’).
I too is a great fan of WWE but i was much greater till the times of The Rock. WWE frustrated me a lot of time and you know i too frustrated it ..(by not watching it)...LOL
Sometimes we become so addicted to somethings that we always miss them if we try to avoid them. For ex - when that Master Piece Chris Masters challenged anybody to break his master lock when he was a newbie my eyes stoped blinking...
I dint understand how a new muscular kid can challenge the RAW, infact WWE to break his lock. I waited the next Monday untill the big show accepted the challenge :D . Thats great, i mean we cant guess who can win which game.
I lost several bucks in bets to my friends. Hell, i stopped guessing.
I think you are right that Undertaker is not going to face Khali for sometime now but yaar age doesnt matter, look at that old crap nature boy. He is in 60s and he marches towards ring like a young wrestler in his early 20s:halo: . When he fights i can count his punches for free. He looks so artificial.
Same from me, you got green signal from dhobi_bhai too. Undertaker now is not the Undertaker that used to be. I too dont like watching him wrestle (and winning every time).
hmmmm i think WWE is facing some scarcity of the wrestlers… May be we can show them the sub-continent
Sometimes we become so addicted to somethings that we always miss them if we try to avoid them.
I whole-heartedly agree with you. Those times, the Attitude Era to be precise, was the single biggest reason why the fans from every single household flocked in groups to the arenas all over the States and Canada and Europe and anyplace on the map you can point your finger towards, because fact of the matter was, there were two companies at the very top of their game competing for one top spot for the winner's position. WCW was at it's very best during the years of 1996-1998. They handed out a $9 million contract for a period of three years to Hart (who refused at first due to his 14 years of loyalty towards WWF but was then screwed at the Survivor Series), and this same company went miles......miles and distance in order to stamp their name on the envelope as the dominating entity for that short period in time. There were careers at stake, people's entire lives, their paychecks, their contracts were then decided (or got thrown away) in the blink of an eye, much in thanks to the creative geniuses of Eric Bischoff.
I remember the night when Austin won the King of the Ring tournament in 1996 against Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and delivered his 3:16 speech. He only said his catchphrase word once......once, and what have you, the very next night on RAW, the very next night, every square inch of that arena was completely filled with gigantic 3:16 signs, mega-drawn posters, fans wearing Austin T-shirts, merchandise, hand gestures; people were buzzing, literally buzzing. Chants were heard throughout, and that atmosphere was just crazy. That is what is called entertainment at it's best. Not only the guys such as Rock, Hogan, Hart, Austin, Flair (and several others) knew how to entertain the crowd (their mere presence in the arena was enough to throw away a large sum of money), but they knew how to wrestle. Take Hogan for instance. Wrestling ever since his childhood days, Hogan had the capability to hold the audience in the fist of his left hand. There is a repetition pattern that is visible in almost all of his matches - He would start out big as the crowd would start to lose their voice in showering him with cheers but then all of a sudden, he would get knocked down by a simple punch to the point where every adult and kid would start screaming their lungs out, and then as the climax would hit the pedal and as the lights focused on the squared circle, all of a sudden you would see Hogan saying his prayers and taking his vitamins mustering up all of his energy and rise from the dead like he was fighting for every drop of blood in his body to save his life. The crowd loved it, they adored it. Even though I admit that his arsenal did not consist of ten thousand variations of suplexes and sleeper holds, he darn sure knew how to pay off at the end. Exact same story with Bret, Rock, Austin, Angle, Benoit, Guerrero, Mysterio and Jericho.
As for Chris Masters......One sentence, really. A million-dollar body and a nickel 's worth of wrestling ability. Yes, that is how he is described. A million-dollar body and a nickel's worth of wrestling ability.
In other news, one of the cable company operators in Canada ‘accidently’ (or purposely, rather) leaked out the details of RAW-brand Vengeance PPV…and…and…bear with me here…
Takes a long breath *
DX!!! DX!!! THE RETURN OF DX!!! THE RETURN OF DX!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! THE RETURN OF DX!!!
