Finally decided to do it...

Okay, so I have finally decided to do a Masters in Psychology, insha’Allah. I feel its my forte, and lots of ppl have suggested it to me as well, including some guppies. Thanks guys/gals. smile

Need to study for GRE now. However I still dont know what area of Psychology to study, as there are several.

Any suggestions, advice, tips and encouragement would be appreciated. Thanku. smile

i wud go for developmental psych

or behaviour modification.

both are very interesting.

p.s whats GRE?

Munni, are you applying for Fall '04? Which colleges?

I’m also gonna be applying for masters for Fall '04 to a bunch of US schools.

I’m also going to have to take GRE’s :teary2:

Keep in touch over PM if you would like…maybe we can motivate each other n study for our GRE’s side by side n keep track of deadlines n stuff together if you want?

Best of luck :k:

wow Munni... great decision - Best of Luck to you for the GREs' and your admissions inshaAllah :)

w.r.t. selecting a functional specialism, how about Industrial Psychology?

Its effectively an applied domain of human factors psychology and experimental psychology. You'll be studying relationships between people and their work environments, and develop new ways to increase productivity. You may also be involved in personnel selection.

THere are sites on the web that have practice GRE tests, along with Miller' Analogies test. Good luck in your admission process

I am not sure if this falls under the medical science or physology but how about anything related to relationships (parents, husband-wife, children) etc. They seem to be increasingly important societal issues. Also anything related to human-machine physcology would be cutting edge as that really considers how people relate to machines and how those machines in turn affect us.

Good luck on the GREs!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I guess I will have to see whats offered and then decide. However I am thinking now that I will lean more towards what hmcq was saying. I enjoyed Adolescent psychology, and I definately enjoy relationship counselling. Will see what happens.

irem, I will be PMing you shortly. I have soooo many things to consider right now, including where to apply. I dont want to do such a long Masters so will consider doing one outside of the USA as well. Have a friend who is going to look at uni's for me in England and tell me what they have to offer.

Thanks again everyone, and if you have any other suggestions, please feel free to share. smile

hey Munni, cool :) i'll be applying to UK too inshallah...

u asked abt which progs in psych..i'm not too familiar with psych at all actually thats why i dint say anything abt that in my last reply..but hmmm...i think u should get the course bulletins from the unis u r interested in applying to....they're prolly online...and look at the course offerrings....go thru the detailed course descriptions...n then see what field interests u most...thats the approach i'm following for choosing my grad school program :)

cool munni! best of luck!
and once you graduate you can open your own section here at GS to provide Psychological help to the guppies!:k:

best of luck dear inshallah u will do fine :)

my personal favourite of psychology are developmental psychology and psycho-analytic sciences although the latter are more from psychiatry :k:

good luck

Munni

I am sure as time goes by many of the desis..second generation and beyond will need help in trying to adjust and manage various sets of expectations. More bias which is a definite possibility in coming years may be a huge issue too. so since you have been so involved in social service for pakisyanis and msulims, you may be able to pair that passion with your career and go in a field where you could help the next generation.

^as it seems now, the next generation will need psychiatric help more than psychological help.

Masha'Allah it is a great idea. Psychology was one of my favorite subjects in undergrad. I suggest you go to a school in a metro area. There you will get many opportunities to do research and internships.
