Re: Final World Cup groups confirmed

How Pakistan's pool is easy???Pakistan has 3 Test Playing countries ...& remember WI is not only the host but was also the World champion twice......... while Zimbabwe reached the super sixes in 1999 WC....Ireland is the RU of ICC trophy i guess..

Re: Final World Cup groups confirmed

I can bet my chaddis that Pakistan will beat all three of the pathetic teams you are overrating so much here. Really.

World Cup 2007 Schedule

West Indies, the hosts, will play the first match of the 2007 World Cup against Pakistan, in Jamaica, on March 13, 2007. The match, from Group D, will be staged at the newly renovated Sabina Park in Kingston.

Australia, the defending champions, will open their tournament against Scotland in St Kitts on March 14. Overall the tournament will involved 51 matches in 59 days and the final will take place on April 28 in Barbados.

Trinidad & Tobago will host Group B. Matches will commence on March 15 when Sri Lanka meet Bermuda, India and Sri Lanka meet in the group’s showpiece game on March 23.

St Lucia, which is hosting England’s group for the round robin stage of the tournament, starts its matches on March 14 with Kenya taking on Canada. Kenya will also close out the group by playing England, who’s first match is against New Zealand on March 16.

The round robin play will see six games over a period of 11 days in each of the four groups. The winners and runners-up from each group will earn the right to advance to the Super 8 stage of the tournament where teams will play each of the other teams advancing - except the team which advanced from their own group - for a total of six games each.

The Super 8 stage of the tournament, which begins on March 27, will be played in four countries: Antigua, Guyana, Grenada and Barbados. The last match of this segment of the tournament will take place on Saturday 21 April.

For the semi-finals the four remaining teams will travel to Jamaica and St Lucia. On Apri 24 Sabina Park in Kingston will be the venue for semi-final one, where the second and third place finishers from the Super 8’s will square off against each other.

On April 25 the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia will stage semi-final two, pitting the first and fourth place finishers from the Super 8’s against each other.

The event logo and event mascot were also unveiled at an event in Trinidad and Tobago. The event mascot is a teenage character called `Mello’ who embodies the lifestyle of the region.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

Super 8 round is going to be an exciting round with each team playing 6 matches against the top sides. Overall it will be a more competitive tournament in the later stages as compared to the last WC where sides in super 6 played 3 matches each. Pakistan hopefully will be playing matches against india, srilanka, england, australia, newzealand and southafrica in super 8.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

Jamaica in March has an average high temperature of 90’F and mean temperature of 85’F. Average relative humidity between 64% to 73%.

Luckily doesn’t seem like the rain season.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

I think this is the 2nd time Pakistan will play the opening match in a WC and the first time, not as the host nation. They played with srilanka in 87 WC but then Pakistan was the host along with India and they got to play the opening match. Not sure exactly about 83 WC. Pakistan did start early in that tournament but not sure if they had the first match or if it was england vs newzealand.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

Any cruise company with some brains should come up with a Cricket Cruise package asap. Watch cricket during the day, cruise at night to arrive at another island the next day for another match.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

^ I think most likely people who travel to West Indies will want to watch the matches of their team, in which case, the teams will remain in one island for the entire first round. But yeah, a combo-travel package (air+hotel+cricket tickets) will definitely start appearing in due course.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

**West Indies might consider floating hotels

July 6, 2004
The Caribbean islands might resort to floating hotels to cope with the influx of tourists during the 2007 Cricket World Cup. West Indies - winners of the first two editions in 1975 and 1979 - have never hosted cricket's showpiece event before, and there have been fears in some quarters that the infrastructure on the islands will be stretched beyond its limit.

But an Agence France Presse report quoted Teddy Griffith, the West Indies Cricket Board president, as saying that at least a few among the eight venues chosen might opt for wave-splashed accommodation options. He said, "There is the possibility, maybe the probability, of using some floating hotels."

Griffith was anxious to add, however, that the idea didn't necessarily mean that fans would have to shell out a small fortune for rooms aboard huge cruise liners.

The tournament is expected to do wonders for the economies of the region, with the hosts' share of the gross revenues expected to be around US$100million. The tournament will feature 16 teams, and 51 matches over almost two months.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

I don’t think MOST people will have enough time to follow their home team due to long breaks between matches. For an average Joe, a week will be the most he could take off. He would rather watch 4 to 5 matches within a week by island hopping. I for one wouldn’t want to watch the same teams more than twice. This is world cup and every match is important. I would definitely pick India-SL or Aus-SA over Pak-Ireland, although I am a Pakistani fan.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

funguy, at some point in your life, you will just have to face the truth. You are not a genuine, symbolic, mainstream pankha (fan) of the team. Heck! not too long ago, you were willing to ditch them for lack of professionalism. :rolleyes vala icon:. Take some lessons from Chacha Cricket. He is the team mascot for a reason.

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

Faisal, lol ... I may not be a 'genuine' fan of Pakistan team, but write it on the vaaal, I am a die-hard CRICKET fan. I am more excited about watching good cricket than some half ass mediocre players goofing around on the field. The ideal scenario is when cricket is good and one of the teams is Pakistan.

I am so excited about the Ashes starting in two days...I have my Outlook calendar marked since last year in November...

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

^ good for you. pakistan deserter

Re: World Cup 2007 Schedule

shame on you fg. You deserted us! tsk tsk! What a marriage can do to a die hard fan.

Instead of WI (the stronger of the pool) I would have liked us to see against ZIm or Ireland first up but not a tough pool so good signs.

Where did I say I am deserting the Pakistani team? :o
