How often do we see song titles become film titles? In an industry as unoriginal as Bollywood, the numbers endless. But how often is the star of the film which featured the song, the star of the film with the title? Leave it to Shah Rukh Khan to take that title. Presenting another controversy driven film, Chalte Chalte. Being supported by big names, with accredited films like Yes Boss, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka, Dreamz Unlimited and director Aziz Mirza (who directed the first two films), return with another romance avis. Amongst enjoyable melodies (another rarity in the industry) courtesy excellent lyrics by Javed Akhtar, fans can finally get to see what they have been teased with in two past major blockbusters: a Rani Mukherjee- Shah Rukh Khan pairing. Hopefully this time, they see it together until the end.
Like any romance, Chalte Chalte is again following the non-novel story, but novel attempt path in recreating a sophisticated romance about two mature adults. Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) is the obligatory stubborn headed stern young man who is the exact opposite of the mature, sophisticated and perfectionist Priya (Rani Mukherjee). The couple battle their feelings and pride and eventually get together until life and its many circumstances come in the way. Chalte Chalte describes Priya and Raj´s trials and tribulations through a regular life and marriage and how love prevails in the end. (Sounds cliché, doesn´t it).
Though it appears to be inspired by the recent Saathiya, Rani Mukherjee, the heroine of that film, begs to differ. The team of Dreamz Unlimited (Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan) and Aziz Mirza didn´t find the flavor of the audience in Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani but with romance the flavor of the season, Chalte Chalte is quite possibly the family film the Indian audiences are looking for.
