I used to use tag2find but then got lazy and don't regularly tag my files anymore. But there are couple of other tools out there as well. Can't remember the name but saw some article on lifehacker.com last week and there were couple of users in comments section who mentioned some.

btw, I am talking about mostly pdf files tagging for organizing files - I believe there are gizzillions of mp3 files tag programs out there.

I heard windows vista have some built-in capability.

^ yeah Roman... I'm primarily interested in tagging documents including word docs and pdfs. While I can tag the former in Vista... I'm looking for a generic tool that can handle a variety of files.

That's one area where Vista greatly lost out - tagging files was a cool feature to have - only if we had the ability to tag everything.

I'll check out tag2find.

Yeh check it out..I've been pretty satisfied with it. I think it keeps the tags even if you rename / modify the file because it uses a db to keep track of tags and files.
