…any file encryption softwares out there which u smart people can recommend me? Stuff that would be really hard to crack withouth the keys ![]()
Re: file encryption softwares
Regular PGP doesn't work?
Re: file encryption softwares
Go to google and search for the software who use md5 encryption.
Re: file encryption softwares
i need some serious sophisticated encryption to encryp some .doc files or txt files
any recommendation?
Re: file encryption softwares
If you are using Win XP Pro and NTFS you can use the built-in encryption (EFS). Here’s the link to the MS site with a walk thru:
Re: file encryption softwares
ROT-13 yaar :P or try L337
Re: file encryption softwares
use PGP as mentioned above, get it from http://www.pgpi.org/
or try http://pgp.com & get the free version from there.
Re: file encryption softwares
If you dont find free version I have PGP 8.1 please let me know I'll upload it somewhere so u can download it.
Re: file encryption softwares
PGP or a open source implementation of AES ~ 512 bit's
BTW aaho MD5 is not a cipher it's a 16 byte hash function.
Re: file encryption softwares
been using AxCrypt for some time now… I like it because of its one-click feature (right click a file to encrypt) and it can encrypt a file upto 4GB!
it uses the AES-128 and SHA-1 algorithms…
Best of all, its FREE Here’s the website link: http://axcrypt.axantum.com/index.html
Re: file encryption softwares
Zero Footprint Crypt 4.03.05
http://www.baroufasoft.net/
Using any one of six algorithms, this application encrypts files and wipes the originals from the drive. The built-in viewers allow you to view several common file types including movie, image and sound files. For supported formats, you can choose to view images without decrypting to a file. This process allows for maximum security since the file is not created on your hard drive, but in memory.
Re: file encryption softwares
hold on guyz...if ur getting all these amazing encrypting softwares for free...how can u trust their integrity?? wat if the developers of those joints steal ur sensitive data???
y'all got nuthin on them for that matter!!
wat if they are a team of hackers providing that encrypted software....i mean no one has been to their main office and such...
i dunno...just being over protective of my data...to the extent tht i dunno how to protect it :S
Re: file encryption softwares
Well, first its mostly open source so it gets checked by other developers. Second you don't leave out those encrypted files out in the open, even if the developer can get into the files, which is highly doubtful.
Re: file encryption softwares
Thas why I suggested uisng open source packages or utilities which make use of those libraries. Many commerical systems have backdoors for easy entry by law enforcement agenices and invetibaly crackers eventually find them aswell. A lot alos talk a alot of crap e.g GSM I think has a 64bit cipher at the time souded ok but in reality that first 32 bits are not random so that makes it 2^32 = 4294967296 times easier as each bit doubles the maximum time to brute forece i.e. expoential growth.
To stay safe only trust PGP and for symetric encryption AES, Blowfish
Re: file encryption softwares
For the record, technically speaking, both AES and blowfish have been cracked.
Re: file encryption softwares
In that case there is no public cipher not cracked apart from using asymetric keys. Even then many suspect NSA and GCHQ may have cracked earlier or all versions of PGP.
So what do you do?
Re: file encryption softwares
All this security stuff is to deter the casual cracker, and to delay the pro's enuff so they'd give up. The only way to secure the data is to disconnect the network cable and put the computer in a safe (which doesn't have a tumbler lock) and pray.
Re: file encryption softwares
^ hey thats good practice...im'a do that!!
Re: file encryption softwares
then you have the problem of safe breakers and lock pickers.
