Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

I am old enough to remember PTV from the days when it used to run from 5:00 PM till 11:00 PM, Tuesday till Sunday (yes no TV on Monday). Karachi and Lahore were the only centers. The program lining would go something like this

Basserat (Qirat and Tarjuma) > Kids cartoons > Local (Sindhi) News followed by a Sindhi drama > English show > Urdu Drama (at 8 PM) > Khabar Nama > some political talk show (tabsara) > Pakkay raag/Qawwali (Urdu movie on Saturday night, English movie on Friday night), Quomi Tarana, and bye bye..

That is all the entertainment you would get, and it was all Black and White

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

This used to start running 15 minutes before the broadcast around 4:45PM. This was our cue to sit tight in front of TV

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

PTV used to air dramas in provincial languages that gave a taste of local language. Dramas were produced by different production centers (khi, lhr, preshwar etc) and culture of those cities and villages was beautifully captured. these days dramas lack depth as production houses have limited themselves to one or two big cities.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Aangan tehra, Waris, Samundar, Mama seemi(Drama 84 series), darwaza...

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Jack of all…

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

True dat. Our script writers have lost their touch with a common man.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Seerhiyan. Probably the best performance by Rubina Asharf and the amazing Salman Shahid

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

How about Neelam Ghar / Tariq Aziz Show. Long running quiz show in Asia.

PTV was in hands of people who were big names in literature. Sufi Tabassum, Ashfaq Ahmed, Bano Qudsia, Kishwar Naheed, Obaidullah Baing, Iftikhar Arif, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Parveen Shakir, and the list goes on. PTV fell on its four when they tried to follow glamour race like other channels.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Kaanch ka pul was first long play in 'Drama 81' and its in syllabus of a University in China.

'Darya' a serial related to Cholistan and its customs, is part of syllabus of Bahaoudin Zakariya University, Multan.

'Ab mera intezar kar' also won international acclaim. Even our regional plays won awards on international level. Sindhi play 'Dangi manjh darya' which recently adapted in Urdu as 'Nao main darya' won award in Germany.

All this could won hearts of people, because they don't afraid of doing experiments with topics unlike today's run of the mill garbage. Masood Ahmed Shah (a director from PTV Peshawer) put this very beautifully as ' In yesteryears, it was the director who used to lead a project and viewers followed him / her. Now, director's follow viewers / marketing agencies which lead to situation we are facing today'.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

i only watched 'aaNgan TeRhaa' and yes it's indeed a classic. my bro told me today that the Pakistani drama that he really liked was/is "Ankahii"...i intend to watch it over the weekend. :)

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

In a recent interview, legendary actor Talat Hussain said something interesting about 24 hour transmission in Pakistan.

He said that it is understandable for countries having various time zones like USA, but in countries like Pakistan it is unnecessary. You don't got content and therefore keep on filling slots with sub-standard programs including the programs from other countries which sometimes doesn't match our cultural values.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

I remember taiq azizsho when he used to invite newly married coupes and asks to write number between this n tis, we used to play the same at home I used to ask everyone apna apna number bolay my dadi used to love it

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

USA TV is an industry, and a very well thought one. They have specific audiences for specific time slots, and they run the shows according to their taste. Talat Hussain is right. Our TV is nothing but bhair chaal. Ek drama series heejRoN pe hit ho ga'ee tou bus jee bhair chaal shroo. Ek investigatory show sex crimes pe hit ho gayaa tou bhair chaal shroo.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

which show? :hmmm:

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

aangan terha, waris, samandar are offcourse great, no two words about them, i particularly mentioned about long plays :D

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Great to know that! If I remember correctly, Haseena Moin's long play Guriya also won best drama award in Japan. I haven't watched any sindhi plays unfortunately because they were aired only in karachi and sindh. In lahore, we used to get punjabi play between 6-7:00 PM slot. Private channels have totally neglected all the regional languages.

In those days, artists worked for passion rather than money grab. These days only a handful of directors are educated and possess good artistic sense. Rest are just there just by chance. They have lost touch with the audience. Marketers call the shots and dictate what should be presented on tv.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

yes it won .....

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

and Umera copied it as 'Be-had'. BTW. Haseena Moin's one was also an adaptation.

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

i didn't watch be-hadd but yes read comments about its similarity to guriyaa on sites....

Re: Fifty glorious years for P.T.V

Do you the name of the original? Was it a short story or a tv play? Didn't expect Umera to copy without crediting the source.
