The european muslims have predominately have chosen to live within their own community. They develop their own schools which lack credible teachers and even the curriculum is not up to par compared to other schools. They refuse to assimilate. When you cloister yourself the opportunities dwindle.
Recently a great documentary was made about the Muslims in UK who choose to live a life seperate from the rest of Britain. WHo choose not to be part of the west. All they did was spew aspersions . ANd they are the ones who came to UK! This is where the extremism/radicalism sprouts. They beget their own limited opportunities by the mere fact they have fostered isolation amongst their youth. When youth leaves to find opportunity they realize they have not been served well in education OR skills and training and they are then not fully able to compete for good jobs/positions.
I have a friend who is a teacher in grade four. The child was not doing the homework , participating in curriculum because the parents are so entrenched in their own ways. When parents were told the child is not doing well, needs to do homework etc , parents said the child can't do homework as too busy with mosque etc on nightly basis. THey informed my friedd mosque more important then school work at night. WELL , i AM SURE THERE ARE PLENTY OF SUCH PARENTS WHO ARE POLLUTING THEIR CHILD'S FUTURE IN THE WEST. AND WHEN CHILD GROWS UP AND REALIZES THEY ARE OUT OF PLACE WHAT ARE THEY TO DO? exactly, they become the car burning hooligans. Next some fanatic brainwashes their minds with extremism madrasa curriculum and fueling their minds with parochial perversions more appropriate for the ignorant of 1400 years ago.
UK muslims don't want to assimilate, many in Austria try to foister their beliefs on a society they came to live in. iN LINZ, they wanted public school teachers to wear headscarfs. When they segregate themselves they do an injustice to the future generations. Are you sure they are asking all the teachers in public schools to cover up? That doens't make any sense. I'm having slight doubts about it. One has every right to wear a hijab or niqab if they want to, but to demand that even non-Muslims do this, is ridiculous.
I think there is a difference between "assimilation" and "integration." One means that you are giving up all of your beliefs to fit into the larger culture whereas the other simply means to incorporate the good aspects of the surrounding culture while keeping hte good aspects of your own. Completely rejecting your own culture to fit in is no good, nor is it any good to completely shut yourself out of the culture, especially when you have children.
That's pretty sad waht the parents are doing... I asked this question in antoher thread not too long ago, that what is the use of coming to a new country when they're not even making a single effort into adopting parts of their culture? This doesn't mean that suddenly women throw their hijabs away and they start eating pork for breakfast, but learning and interacting with ppl of diverse backgrounds.....Even people who come to a country only for economic and educational benefits, at least they push their child to do well in school, to make it their first priority....

I think he is referring to the rights of speaking out loud (freedom of speech) in a country where you actually cannot speak out loud at all. Especially when you have different views/opinions to share. Muslims are one group suffering the most.
Then speak out loud! This isn't Pakistan, you are allowed to speak your mind. But do it within the confines of the exisitng structure which does not include extremist attacks. Organize instead of complaining. Vote instead of whine. Lead instead of following failed policies of the past. Participate and vote instead of playing the victim card.

Actually we are MORE free to speak our mind in Pakistan then we are in America. In America if we speak our mind then they call us unpatriotic, "fifth column". Just look at CAIR, it represent the mainstream Muslim community and yet it is called a so many bad words by the media and talk radio.

Just for the record, European Muslims have more a voice in what goes on, than American muslims ever have.
British Parliament has countless number of MPz who are Muslim, can you name any muslim senators/Congressmen besides Keith Ellison who have taken a stand for muslim values and principles?

There is an islamic school in toronto which besides teaching islamic ways also teaches histories, geographies and Sience ( as they wrote the curriculum on their own web site). THerefore , my observation about self imposed segregation is true and verified by UK and European muslims.

Hskhan, you have a wrong conception of the "paki" word. We ourselves are to be held responsible for the Brits labelling us as paki's. Look at those nicks at GS as for some proof. Every Pakistani defines him/herself as a "Paki" so why are you so surprised being named "Paki" in UK then?
However, I believe Brits have adopted and accommodated themselves to the Pakistani crew better than majority Americans. Let me exclude Canada for once. I also think that coarse word (paki) is very common in Canada too.
