CHRISTCHURCH– Apropos of a news item appearing in a section of the press and run by several news channels back home in Pakistan, stating that there has been a tiff between three players Shahid Afridi, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal and fielding coach/trainer Grant Luden and the latter has resigned because of it, it is clarified that the news is absolutely false and that nothing of the sort has happened.

The entire team trained together Tuesday afternoon, in a spirit of camaraderie, under the supervision of head coach Waqar Younis with each of the other coaches and assistant manager Shahid Aslam actively involved throughout the extended four-hour session. Ditto for Wednesday, where some players were put through their paces by all coaches, with Mr Luden putting in an extra hour on both days with a select group of players.

However, a few days prior to the start of the ICC World Cup 2015, Mr Luden had expressed his desire that for personal reasons, he would want to be relieved of his duties somewhere in May '15. Subsequently, as his issues were resolved, he took his resignation back. “The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the team management as well as the boys hold the job he is doing in high esteem, and are keen that he continues to serve in his present role”, said the PCB spokesman.

As I stated earlier, we need to hear what happened from the players side also. I think something did happen. And the coach did complain. And matter got resolved.

Someone leaked his side to the press - maybe he did, or someone from his camp. It is a tribute to the players that none of them has issued a statement. And chose to take the insults heaped on them by fans rather than add fuel to the fire.

By the way, per one report, the players were not to happy for being run to the ground. Their travel schedule is hectic. And they hardly get rest. This is not boot camp now. The period of intense training was 4 months ago. NOT in the middle of a 6 week tournament. Else you run your team to the ground. And drain them of energy.

In time we will know the players side.

Coach Luden was reportedly irate that the players were sitting around in the bus while traveling rather than doing uthak baithak.

Shahzad guy is a real character. First he gives a religion changing lecture to Dilshan but himself goes to clubs, picks up fight in a club in australia, tried to pick a fight with mod of a cricket forum, picked up fight with fielding coach and now messing with one of the greatest bowler of all time.

Waqar is twice his size, at least Shahzad should see who he is messing with.

this fielding coach should be fired anyway. dont think he is doing the job for which he was hired. I heard he has never played first class cricket

In that case he should be the cricket expert in our country.. i mean, PCB chairman, game planning, talent hunt... he should be looking in these matters
