has any one used fido service here? howz it ? i am thinking of switching to fido..but i am not sure about it. i’ve heard they have really bad service but their plans are amazingly cheap and affordable. can anyone tell me the pros n cons of getting fido?
the features iam most interested in are international sms and incoming calls.
I don’t know about how crappy their service is, but I certainly know that my next cell phone service provider could be Fido!
Fido2Fido incoming calls are free! ![]()
Plus, I think you only get charged for the airtime that you use, and not by the minute.
If I could, I would most certainly switch to Fido, but I can’t because:
- I’ve still got a year to go with Rogers and there’s no use unless my friends switch over to Fido (so that incoming calls would be free)
- I want to keep my number and don’t want to have it changed
i'd be cautious of gettin fido now...microcell (parent company of fido) was acquired by rogers last week...so dunno what lays in fidos future...
using fido
network coverage isnt great so had to get out there, and buy a lil expensive, and better phone..
same phone, if used on rogers network is kick butts, big time ![]()
why the change? even though i lost msn-mobility and incoming emails/web sms free facilities, its a flat-rate plan ![]()
Fido's reception is really poor...yes they have good plans....but I had a friend who used to have a Fido phone...and he was always complaining about bad reception.
which one has the best value for money than???
Bell, rogers or fido???
I've been using Fido with a Sony Ericsson T310 for over 14 months now... been happy with it overall - no problemos. I use it for SMS, to retrieve emails from my POP account, and of course Voice :)
As far as the rates go, its reasonably priced and since I have Sprint as my Home Phone Service Provider, I get a special package for Wireline and Wireless.

It depends on how you define "value" for money.
Coverage? Product Portfolio? Customer Service? Contractual Obligations?
Based on a research project that I lead last year to ascertain Rogers' competition in the wireless industry, two most prominent results were as follows:
1) customers have the most positive proclivity towards: Bell Mobility followed by Rogers, then Telus, then Fido.
2) Bell Mobility has the lowest Churn Rates in the Canadian market - close to 1.6% (we did our research in spring 2003), Rogers was close to 2% while Fido was 2.6%.
I've been with fido for almost a year now. Network coverage isn't the best, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I'd heard bad reviews from people about fido, but I haven't run into any problems so far.
There are two awesome plans for unlimited incoming calls. There's CityFido (I had it for a few months). It offers unlimited calls (both incoming and outgoing) any time of the day for $45 a month. There's no monthly system access fee. I loved it.
They've a new package for unlimited incoming calls any time of the day, around a 100 weekday and 1000 weekend/weeknight minutes for $25/month. I switched over to this one, and so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. If I start using up more minutes, I'll switch back to cityfido. ;-)
There are also several packages for sms. Check out fido.ca.
Does Fido work with GSM phones? I'm bringing over my Sony Erriccson Z600 to Canada and need a phone provider that works with...
A company i use to work for uses fido phones for their courier business and it works GREAT! I use to work for this company and i would travel all over GTA with it had ok reception so far! I think it mainly depends on the type of phone you get also! Dont get the ericson sony phones, they have bad receptions! Do some research and find the one with good reception. Recently rogers have spent alot of money in putting Sattelite/Towers all over GTA area where the reception was bad! Also recently it was in the news that Rogers was making the deal to buy out fido!
I currently have bell! I honestly get ripped off everytime i pay their bill! so far i spent over 600 dollars in last 5 months on just cellphone bill! its so phatetic
Bell scams their customers! I am thinking about getting that Fido City plan which is like 45 bucks unlimited talking anytime around GTA areas.
maddy get it unlocked, z600 is NICE ! ;)

I refuse to ever buy new cell phones unless they are already unlocked. ;)
One step ahead of you, man :p
yaar z600 is the only locked phone i have .. every other one is unlocked+unbranded..
Been using fido for a while now. The only problem I have is once in a while when you have to go out of the city to the countryside (like wasaga beach or collingwood as in my case) and there was no coverage. Then again, how often do you go out of the city?
The coverage itself within the city is great, I find it works in elevators, basements, etc... in places where others don't get good reception.
Also, I would probably change my phone to the nokia 6340. Its a dual mode phone so when there is no GSM coverage, fido switches over to the TELUS analog network for a certain fee. That would reslove the problem of coverage in the boonies.
nice.. fido it is!
cb.. thats the plan i am planning to get :-)
thank u every one!
