Are they any different than laxatives? From all i’ve read, i know that laxatives are no good to take on a regular basis… but what abt fiber supplements like powder or capsules? I know in diet its necessary but wat if its just easier/more convenient to eat the supplements in case diet mein its not enough? And are those supplements meant to be taken constantly or just for a few days?? Am confused…
Re: Fiber supplements
Have you tried Ispaghol Husk? I once asked my doctor if its ok to take ispaghol husk daily...and he told me that its taken as a food item, and if it helps, its perfectly alright to take it daily.
Re: Fiber supplements
I would recommend Isabgol too...psyllum husk I think its called. And its ok to take daily. But you need to include fibre in your diet. Also drink plenty water and if you take multi vitamins, take one which have pro-biotics. It helps a lot.
Re: Fiber supplements
what abt other brands like metamucil or what? ispaghol is desi isnt it?
Re: Fiber supplements
I ve also seen it in UK marketed as tablets of psyllium husk which I think is Isabgol. You may also get desi tablets, but I seen it in the form of the husks itself.
I not heard about metamucil but if this is a laxative, I would advise against it. laxatives do the work for your digestive system (a quick fix) and therefore your system ends up getting "lazy". So in essence when you off the laxatives, your body has forgotten its functions and you will end up in a worse of situation. Fibre (even in tablet form) make your system work. So that should be ok if it is all natural.
Include prunes and paw paw in your diet if you like the taste. Lukewarm water also good.
Re: Fiber supplements
No, its not a laxative..its a brand of fiber that can be either in tablets or powder......
Re: Fiber supplements
try metamucil. Takes longer time, but works..
Re: Fiber supplements
Breakfast of oatmeal also provided good amount of fiber...and also motay aatey ki roti helps as well...don't get used to laxatives...instead include fiber in your diet...I believe this is the right thing to do...
Re: Fiber supplements
Metamusil is mashriq aur maghrib ka milap. This is link to their website.
Metamucil: Psyllium Dietary Fiber Supplement—a Healthy Choice
That being said there are other desi alternatives now sold at US supermarkets. Like Dehydrated ( note not dried) Aloo Bukharay by the name of prune , Khajoor by the name of dates, Kishmish by the name of raisins.
They are all good for dealing with constipation. Also you will be tired of using just one thing on a long term basis. So for the sake of variety you can try all of these desi things.
Re: Fiber supplements
Figs are the best for a good fiber content plus fruit also...........:)
