FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
Propoganda at its best.
FGM - Practice in Latin America as well as Africa
http://www.who.int/reproductive-health/fgm/index.html
Amnesty International also has a very nice background documents which details how out of 53 African countries, FGM is practiced in 28 of them. Out of those 28, only 5 of them are Muslim Majority.
However regardless of your attempt at misinformation, any action taken against the will of an individual is unacceptible in Islam. You can not force your way on others. So absolutely it should be condemned.
However in the case of beheadings and stonings, the question is…did they deserve it?
Re: UN Condemns the Dutch Film
Out of those 28 , only 5 of them are muslim majority, but the majority are muslim females who undergo Female Genital Mutilation in those five countries.
28 out of 53 countries muslims practice Female Genital Mutilation. Sick, sick, sick, sick and more sick practice. However , regardless at attempts to whitewash with stats , one too many is one too many.
However, glad you agree against this evil mysoginistic practice.
Stoning for adultery? I say it’s way over the top of heinous islamic practices including beheadings.
As for the post regarding Islam never spread by the sword. It was not a very lovely spread if true history is studied.
Re: UN Condemns the Dutch Film
Uber something, where is the condemnation of the 23 other African countries that practice FGM? Cat got our racist tongue now?
No matter the religious denomination's majority in a country , it still a muslim practice FGM - Female Genital Mutilation
Please don't throw the word racist around so easily as you misuse it's definition. an act of mala-propism on your part.

FGM is mostly a Sub-Saharan African cultural practice that is prevalent among Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Pagans in certain parts of the world. It's not mandated by the Quran, it's actually completely forbidden in Shia Islam, and has been condemned widely by major Sunni scholars. The practice is virtually unheard of among the vast majority of the world's Muslim population.
To call it a "Muslim practice" is unfair to say the least, and only reflects upon your apparent anti-Islam bias.

Did you even read the link from WHO? It is common in Latin America as well? How is that a Muslim Practice then?
http://www.amnestyusa.org/Violence/Womens-Human-Rights/page.do?id=1108439&n1=3&n2=39&n3=739
An estimated 135 million girls and women have undergone genital mutilation, and two million girls a year are at risk- approximately 6,000 per day. Although it is predominantly practiced in twenty-eight North African countries, FGM is not inherent to any nation or religion.
Amnesty and WHO say it is not inherent to any religion or nation. Yet you do. I wonder who is wrong?
Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]

Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
ISnt' it done in some arab countries as well? (dont shoot me, im just askin)
Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
The only Arab countries that practice it are Yemen and those in Africa. Egypt and Libya have banned the practice and those who commit the act are to be lashed.
It is not common practice in the Francophone Arab countries like Morocco, Tunsia and Algeria according to WHO.
Its mainly an African and Latin American tradition according to WHO, Amnesty International and other Human Right Organization.
Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
*I agree it has happened in latin america thanks strictly to the immigrants arrival from africa and mid east. *
It is practiced predominately in North part of Saudi Arabia, in addtion cases still happen southern Jordan, Iraq , through out mid eastern islamic countries but particularly numerous in africa . Of course it was practiced in pharaoh times but islamics readily adopted this cultural practice some citing Hadiths.
In 2006 Khalid Adem was the first person in america to be charged with causing his daughter to undergo the procedure.I believe he took her off for holidays and came back having mutilated his daughter's nether region. Barbaric bas!**
Some families have taken daughters out of western countries to undergo Female genital mutilation . It is now illegal to do so . you take your child out of the west on holidays and have her genitalia mutilated you will face consequences in the west upon return if authorities discover what you have done with the daughters of your family.
I agree it is not solely religious but more so cultural adoption just like the veil/hijab. However, among the Sunni community some believe female genital mutilation is obligatory. the Shafii school of muslim thought believes it to be obligatory
In the shi ite community ruled by Hezbollah in lebanon it is common practice.
Judiasm never allowed femaled circumcision.
*Christianity does not have much of a female genitalia tradition. Like the Torah or Bible there is no mention of female genitalia circumcision as their is in *Quran. And yes some christians do practice female genitalia mutilation but at a very , very , very , very few number as compared to the muslim community as it has never been advocated as much as in the islamic communities to perform this practice against women. **

Oh please. How is it that in Kenya, where only 10% of the population is Muslim, an estimated 50% of women have undergone FGM? Or in Eritrea and Ethiopia, where about 45% of the population is Muslim, and yet 90-95% of women are FGM victims? Or the Central African Republic, where 15% of the population is Muslim, and yet 50% of women are victims? Even if every last Muslim woman and girl in these counties has undergone FGM (which I doubt), most of the victims are still non-Muslim.
And what about countries like Senegal, where 95% of the population is Muslim, but only 20% of women have undergone FGM?
It's a regional practice. And while people with a rabid hatred of Islam (like yourself) may try to pin almost exclusively onto Muslims, that simply doesn't change the facts.
Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
Provide a link for your sources. Its rather irritating to see people blindly believe something when normal sane people, no scratch that. When Amnesty International with women who are medical doctors and far more educated than this say otherwise.

great post janab-e-ali. it would be nice to see similar posts corroborated with facts instead of unsubstantiated claims presented as fact from the other side.

This evil practice has a better chance of being eradicated if it is not given a religious flavor. If you sit down and prove it as a muslim thing, then it will also become an endless religious fight and females will continue to suffer.
That said, I'll be interested to understand from the other side in this argument as to why a majority of females that are subjected to this evil are muslim?
Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]

Re: FGM - a Muslim practice? [split: UN Condemns the Dutch Film]
according to uberalles's quote

which has been refuted subsequently by janab-e-ali. till any substantiation by uberalles that assertion should be viewed with skepticism.

Actually jenab has proven quite conclusively that is not a muslim practice. Sorry
