Few questions about Excercise

I was doing my work out perfectly when yesterday I didn’t do the cool down part completely. After few hours I got a really bad pain in my right leg and bruises appeared on it. I can hardly walk now. It happened before once and i had to take a break from working out for a week. My husband says I should carry on doing the excercise even with the bad pain, should I do that? And what can be the real reason for pain and bruises?

Also, I don’t have a fixed time for it…I do it whenever I’m free. Is that fine?

Re: Few questions about Excercise

what kind of workout u were doing???does it includes any squats?

Re: Few questions about Excercise

^Yep, and also jumping and shuffling.

Pain is body's way of telling you stop.

NEVER IGNORE IT. and STOP when body is telling you to STOP!!!!!

get hubby to rub it, its an acid which accumulate. once it is disperse by rubbing you feel better.
Some time temporally.

Re: Few questions about Excercise

^Well he did and it went worse and it can't be even touched now.

I guess I'll have some painkillers and I'll wait for it to get better...I don't really wanna stop for more than three days. It's hard to get back in routine if you leave the excercise for too long.

Re: Few questions about Excercise

You know, bruise is damaged tissues. you need to put ice on to stop it from spreading.
But I don't understand how soreness caused a bruise.

Are you hiding some thing? did you fell when you were jumping up and down like a child? :D

Re: Few questions about Excercise

well i dont think so there is anything to worry about........torning a tissue or a bruise is ordinary while exercising ...........at least it happens in my case :D

Re: Few questions about Excercise

Hareem, a bruise happens when blood vessels under your skin break. They're usually caused by impact to the area. If there was no impact where your bruises formed, you should get it checked by a doc. And you should hold off on further exercise until its determined what is causing your blood vessels to break.

If there was actually impact to the area where you have bruises, switch to a different type of exercise/

Hope things turn out fine!

Re: Few questions about Excercise

^Thanks.

I'll speak to doctor...it might be something totally different.

There can be a lot of possibilities of the pain :

  1. Lack of Strech : Streching braodens our veins and increase blood flow to the muscles, when we lift hevy weight without optimum streching - we end up with sore muscles.

  2. Overlift : You might have lifted some very heavy weights which your muscle coudnt resist and your cells got tored which resulted bruises.

  3. Improper technique : This is most important, I have seen people doing weight training in horrible manner and the worst part comes when they dont follow what is right and instead go for the easy way.

To exactly understand the reason and the kind of pain you got, I will need to know :

  1. Do you strech the muscles before working out ?
  2. Which exersice were you doing when you felt pain ?

And Yes : "Please stop doing any leg exersice for a while"

best,

Re: Few questions about Excercise

No exercise until you know exactly what is happening.

See a doctor or physical therapist. It could be a nerve you pulled.

Thanks for your reply.

I always stretch before and after the work out. This time I din't stretch after the excercise because something important came up and I had to finish the work out quickly.
I didn't feel anything during the work out, it was after few hours that the pain started.

I don't do heavy weight lifting. About the improper techniques, well I've been following this dvd for few years.

I think it has to do with not doing the cool down and stretching after the work out.

Oh and those weren't bruises.....those were my vains. lol

Yeah...that's what it looks like.

You got it right.

Re: Few questions about Excercise

It's gone much better. I'm so looking forward to the next morning inshallah.

Re: Few questions about Excercise

you are in luck, hareem. dr. queer has just finished his rotation in sports medicine from FRCS.

sounds like you sprained your cute little nanoplexus, but very mildly. for an accurate diagnosis, could you pm me an MRI or X-ray or even a photo of said region? even a sketch can do wonders.

good luck until then. take some ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation if it hurts bad, and call me.
