Re: fever after vaccinations

thank you!! i had given him baby tylenol half an hour before his appointment- about an hour before the shots. he cried for 5 solid minutes (aww) and then he calmed down and fell asleep. woke up in half an hour in the best mood mA. he got a bit fussier around 7 and restless so we gave him tylenol again. and then when he just woke up to eat at 3am, i realised he was very warm, took his temp and it was 99.3. so yeah, tylenol again. its 4:45 now and the fever has come down quite a bit although he's still warmer than normal. i'll keep an eye on it... thank you again!

Re: fever after vaccinations

no problem :) it remains like this fever up n down till 24 hrs of vaccination i hope so it will be fne till evening inshahallah :0

Re: fever after vaccinations

^ ok i was just gonna ask about that because its 10 am now and he's still warmer than normal to the touch. the thermometer read his temp as 97.5 now so its gone down a bit, thank goodness.

Re: fever after vaccinations

inshahallah it will be fne dont worry :)

Re: fever after vaccinations

I was told by my pead not to give the babies any medicine because the fever is very mild and the reaction to the vaccines. So, I didn't give them anything and they were perfectly fine the very next day.

P.s. I read somewhere that temp up to 99.3 is considered normal for infants.

Re: fever after vaccinations

^ two schools of thoughts on that ....
fever is the body'-s way of mounting an immune response ... low grade fever generally doesn't need to be tylenol'-d (acetaminophen) ....
most parents end up using it anyway though :) ...
high fever or fever lasting longer then expected needs to be taken to the pediatrician/ER etc...
anything less then 100.3 is not considered a fever (in USA)
management of fever depends on the age of the infant .... <28days vs 28days division determines the type/approach to Tx.
post'-vaccination fever duration can vary according to the type of vaccination '- eg MMR vaccination fever can last 2'-3 days. Th6ere is no hard n fast rule to this and response vary from baby to baby (just as adults can nurse a viral syndrome/common cold anywhere from 3 days to 10 days.)

Re: fever after vaccinations

hope hes feeling better soon insha Allah

Re: fever after vaccinations

how is our lil man now??

Re: fever after vaccinations

still got a slight temp and is warm to the touch. we've given him tylenol again because he was getting restless and crying, and it helped cool him down and he's sleeping right now. he didn't leave my arms pretty much half the night and all day today- just wanted to be held and cuddled. thanks for asking, gtg :)

Re: fever after vaccinations

I always try to avoid the meds.......rather put them in a cooling bath and distract them.
The bath also helps to tire them out so that they can sleep off the fever.....

Re: fever after vaccinations

I agree with Muzna and ehl e chamman. Ped doesnt recommend to give any meds unless it is 100 or above, otherwise it will settle itself and let the body fight it. Just give a lot of fluid etc. I don't think it's a good idea to give tylenol in anticipation of fever after immunizations.
The other thing I noticed with these meds is that sometimes they drop the tempereture a bit.....and leaves kid restless. Check with your kid's pediatrician.

Re: fever after vaccinations

I used to give the kids Tylenol right before the appt. Typically a low grade fever lasts for a couple of days but I'd give meds the first 24 hours as the site of the shot can be sore causing uneasiness.
