Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

It is known history of Pakistan that it has been ruled by feudal class through out till Nawaz Sharif emerged in Lahore and Altaf Hussain in Karachi, both got popularity among the voters before establishing political parties which we all know is God-Fathered by non other but our military establishment.

There was a little different with the emergence of two, Mohajir community in Karachi for the 1st time felt safe (reality or not, but that is/was the perception) and with NS in Lahore, Ahliyan-e-Lahore felt the difference, i mean see the Lahore or Northern and Central Punjab from 1947 till 1984, the feudal, be it Doltanas, Tiwanas, MamDodts, Laghari, Mazari, Qureshi and many from there to be seen in power corridors. The process was, the military leader or civil/political leadership select/appoint the youngsters of feudal class on ministries or posts and then train them.. Bhutto was one of them.

Anyway, now, when MQM is cornered, the question in the minds of Karachities is exactly the same that was there few decades ago. If MQM goes, if MQM is powerless, will the powerful feudal class let them live in peace? as a matter of fact, I have seen this question in mind of people from Lahore, they fear with Shareef brothers out of the horizon, does that mean feudal will be back??? Mind you, all the development Lahore and major part of Punjab have is mainly because of Shareef brothers.

So if the game is to wipe them all, one by one, then who is going to replace them??? feudal?? PTI for instance, although leadership is with IK, but 2nd in command, 3rd in command all are same ugly feudal..

The failure of Shareef brothers is evident that they have failed to develop a leadership which can replace them on national or even on regional grid of Punjab.. same is the case with MQM, this is also true with almost all the political parties (JI is exception)…

So the question is, who is there to replace??? there is huge gap and this gap can push people towards extremism/violence … do we need a new party?? new leadership to replace the old one??? do we see anyone on the political horizon?? or do we have to go under the control of Martial law for the period of 10 years to get to see a new leader? and martial law means feudal in power, directly…

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

Well the punjab under the chaudharies wasn't bad as well, nothing will happen to the province even if PMLN goes.

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

^^ Punjab under Chaudharies, when was that? ( Chd was under Mushy, and son pervaiz illahi often used to bark at roads of lahore that the city and province belongs to him until he barked at wrong tree, i.e. daughter of a col. i guess and was thrown out of country for year or two, 2ndly, the same chd it was, when even a peon cannot be transferred without paying hefty amount of bribe, 3rdly and more importantly, Ch. looted the province left right and center, have you already forgetten Punjab bank scandal.. .should i even talk about the level of street crimes those days, i mean for the 1st time i saw people are putting barriers and closing down the streets and installing day and night guards (joint) for the locality, i remember those days... a part from these and many like these, yes Punjab was doing fine)

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

^ I am talking about the development work during that time, most of PMLQ people are in PMLN nowadays. I am sure if they were corrupt PMLN would have included them in their party? As far as crime is concerned do you think it's lesser these days as compared to back then? PMLN tends to think that they and the province go hand in hand, rest assured nothing will happen even if PMLN loses power in the province. As far as PMLN and MQM are concerned they are going no where. The political parties will need to reform themselves if they want to survive...

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

What??

If you watched "Pyaare Afzal" drama, it somewhat sheds light on what is happening in Karachi (or any mega city in general). There are gangs who will fight for turf. But extremism will not be result of power-vacuum IMO. If operation in Karachi remains MQM specific then definitely other gangs will see an opportunity to grab.

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

^ On the contrary the infighting in Karachi has created a vacuum and provided terrorist/sectarian organizations an opportunity to strengthen themselves. In the absence of facilitating factors I am sure the terrorism in the city would die down.

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

i don't think so i have got it..

let me try to spell it out again..

which leadership can fulfil gap created by MQM and PML-N in the Urban areas of Punjab and Sindh???

If you are fan of Ch then so be it... but they are dying breed too...

Re: Feudal - The Fear of Karachi & Lahore

I don't know much about the drama but you have said thing yourself, The gangs in Pakistan belongs to certain political or religion party, there ain't any underworld or organized crimes which have no political affiliation in Pakistan.

These gangs make things even more complicated and difficult, why because, once the political leadership to which these gangs reports is not there, they'll be free and we might see emergence of TTP-2..
