FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

On January 10, 2007 for **Bajaur Agency **elections, women were
stopped from casting their votes by Awami National Party (ANP).
Because women are not allowed to vote, imagine in 21st century still
there is some place where women are second class citizen because of
gender.

Awami National Party (ANP) President **Asfandyar Wali Khan **kind of
feudal lords are the second biggest hurdle after the Jamaat-e-Islami,
in the empowerment of Pakistani women. They keep women in
shuttlecock veils just like taliban had in Afghanistan. They don’t allow
girls to go to schools, so forget about the colleges?

Asfandyar Wali Khan and his father **Khan Abdul Wali Khan **has a
history of anti-Pakistani activities. As a result he has been criticized
for backing separatist ideals as well as causing social unrest in
Pakistan. Their whole family is always against the Pakistan and its
constitutions. They never have any constructive roles in the history of
the country rather then destructive. They always want to get
separated from Pakistan and try to make separate states, like the
province which will be named Pakhtunwa or Pakhtunistan. He also
opposed to speak the National language Urdu in his province.

So if we need educated, secular and liberal Pakistan, so we have to
get rid of **Qazi Hussain and Asfandyar wali khan **kind of
conservative leaders.

LAHORE: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) will be amalgamated into the NWFP after Taliban and Al Qaeda elements are eliminated from the region.

In an interview with ARY television aired on Wednesday, Gen Musharraf said the government had started work towards this end in 2000 with the consent of tribal elders, who welcomed this step.

“We should have amalgamated FATA into the NWFP province much earlier. We had the same idea when our forces entered the area,” he said.

The president said the US had concerns about the Al Qadea presence in the tribal areas and that was why Washington had been pressing Pakistan to do more. He expressed reservations on a bill in the US Congress that seeks to link military aid to Pakistan with the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.

“This bill is against our sacrifices in the war on terror. The US should be thankful to Pakistan rather than putting restrictions on us. I am against this bill.”

Gen Musharraf said people sitting in Pakistan undoubtedly planned the September 11 attacks in the US and were still planning more attacks. These elements are trying to spread “Talibanisation” in Pakistan, which would be disastrous and take the country backwards, he said.

“These elements want to impose their brand of Islam on us but we don’t want that Islam that takes us towards backwardness,” he said. “We have to save our society both from Talibanisation and Westernisation and adopt the moderate path.” He said some people in Pakistan misunderstood modernisation, which simply meant providing better facilities and living standard.

The president said Al Qaeda and Taliban had moved to Pakistan from Afghanistan and hurt Pakistani society. The Taliban are fighting in Afghanistan but are also getting support from sympathisers in Pakistan. “The problem lies in both Afghanistan and Pakistan but the major problem is in Afghanistan and we have clearly told the Afghan government that we have done enough and now it is your turn to do something substantial,” he said.

To a question about his uniform and the presidential elections, Gen Musharraf said a two-thirds majority in parliament had allowed him to continue as president in uniform till a certain time, and added that the presidential election would be according to the Constitution. daily times monitor

i personally think its imperative that pak wins the hearts of the people of the border areas. so any action should bare this in mind.

Abeer, welcome to the forum.

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

He started with a bombardement!

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

The initial post is ridiculous, given the extent of female membership and the qualifications of females within the Jamaat-i-Islam.

The JI relies heavily on its female voters and party activists and does not endorse eliminating women from voting, so linking it to the ANP is this regard is pointless.

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

The ANP shouldnt be gotten rid of. They should be allowed to remain free to take part in elections and lose heavily to secular (usually) pro Pakistan groups.

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

JUI are radicals, they don't get any votes usually anywhere in Pakistan. MMA are just an amalgamation of JUI and lots of other groups (losing popularity quick). ANP is secular supposedly. Apparently, the women were not going to vote for them, so they were banned, a politically motivated move. Not sure how true it is though, might be.

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

Has anyone read the book :My Fuedal Lord...an indepth view of the system through a woman's eyes..

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

:cb: this is funny…so exactly how is asfandyar wali khan a feudal?

And to what evidence do you have of Asfandyar Wali Khan or wali Khan ever saying they wanted a separate state? Asfandyar and his father could speak urdu quite fluently. When did it become a crime to speak ones mother tongue?

Re: FEUDAL LORDS: ANOTHER HURDLE FOR PAKISTANI

......................... and it will remain a hurdle forever , we can't get over it.
