We are planning to getting the fence done on the driveway and between our property and the neighbours property… cant decide if we should go for the wooden fence … the metal railing … or … simply plant some plants that will grow into shrubs in a few months and serve the purpose of the fence
Which one would you recommend? anything that is low maintenance please .. I am one lazy bugger when it comes to keeping up with things
Wood fencing isnt all that durable even if its treated wood. And een treated wood requires pressure-washing and sealant at least every couple of years. They now make plastics that look like wood, more expensie but little to no maintenance.
We opted for chain-link around our yard but along the driveway between our house and neighbors we put in a hedge. Both reallly look nice. The fence we got is black chain link and the black color somehow blends in much more nicely than the silvery metal color. We planted some vines around the yard, they're growing along the fencing and its looking good. I especially love my grapevine and clematis with the gorgeous flowers!
For the hedge between the houses, we bought very small plants to save on the cost. It was only about 5 dollars a plant and we needed 25 cause our driveway is pretty long. They were about 12 inches high when we bought them 7 years ago and today they are full, grown together like a wall and 5 feet high! We get them trimmed once a year to keep them healthy and nicely shaped.
Mama , I am bending more towards the plant hedge as well .. mainly coz it is environment friendly plus gives a refreshing look and serves the privacy purpose as well …
The only thing that scares me is the maintenance  .. plants do have to be trimmed quite often and looking after their compost and stuff … ewww … and then theres slugs issue.. the minute they see plants they are all over the place and then keep coming under the step at night time
unless someone guides me on which plants to choose
We have a hedge between us and another neighbour - it can be quite a hassle to keep trimmed. We have a hedge trimmer and it needs trimming every 2 months to keep it looking neat and tidy. Just something to bear in mind.
Arborvitae make the best hedges, they grow quickly, the leaves stay over the winter. A quick trim every few months keeps them neat and orderly looking. They arent expensive if you buy them small and it doesnt take them long to grow.
bear traps , now why didnt i thnk of them .. its perfect to catch all the chors and later i can stack all the bodies and that shall create a perfect hedge … …
Thank Mamaof3 I will go check if i can find this plant in my area
Njgal, White picket fences… I am gonna do a bit of research around them as well …
