Probably, its more of a process of learning for Muslims regarding their religion. Islam is still a very young religion. Muslims will continue to define its boundaries, accepting its limitations and moulding their lives accordingly. Suroor has raised a good point regarding imamat of women. The effort made for this come from within the Muslims. Whether this will become a practice or not, whether it is right or wrong, is besides the point ... but at least something new was tried and some feathers were ruffled.
People referred to here as self-loathing Islamists are basically those who question their faith and refuse to believe things blindly. Presence of this lot can only be a good thing for Muslims.
Well first off, women can lead in Islam, its just that there is a lot of distortion in the scholarly work. It also depends on what your definition of "leadership" is.
Secondly, like I said, its done to villify the opposite side. No doubt about that. Minah-pa, anytime someone sees a weakness in you, they'll try to exploit it. So people see that there is this current struggle within muslims regarding misogyny issues, and they're playing it up.
Just like we muslims play it up when we see that western society is now being weakened by high divorce rates and the break down of the American family, and other such trends. We expand it and then accuse westerners of "trying to go too far with feminism", and other such accusations...if we viewed things objectively, of course the conclusion will be different.
MQ what is written in the Quran is very open to interpretation - there are some hard and fast rules that are specific to situations, but then a lot of it is just generally a guideline of PRINCIPLES. How you apply these principles varies.
Actually pcg the basic meanings are pretty clear as far as Im concerned. People add or subtract the details to suit their ways. So far as Ive seen. People dont put EVERYTHING together and will quote one verse for whatever they need it. If we we’re to use the Quran as a source of guidance, we have to use it as a whole.
As far as equality is concerned between males and females. Its the exact same thing. People will bring forth what they “want” to. A sensible person would and should look at all aspects of life , not just oh a guy can be a leader of something so why cant a female do the same. I think a lot of people seem to miss the entire picture and only concentrate on a part of it.
MQ, the fundamentals of any religion cannot be changed without creating a new religion. So, there is no need to worry about that. The kind of changes that are bound to happen and will happen as Islam grows are the interpretations of different Islamic guidelines for the sake of making the religion more compatible with the demands of the present times.
PCG, some of the issues you mentioned are more than weakness. For example, high divorce rate in US, I dont think it is related to feminism, it is however, related to people not taking responsibility for their actions. Much of today’s culture is based on instant gratification. We want to get everything right away…when the spouse does not turn out to be the person you thought he/she was …people move on to the next one. In my opinion, if we teach our kids to take responsibility for their actions it will help us tremendously. You can look at the divorce rate objectively and it will still be high. There will be broken families with dead beat fathers and confused children raised by two lesbos or faggots which contributes to the break down of not only family values but moral fibre as well.
Because she will destroy the very foundation this country was built upon. I dont know about you, but I believe that communisim and scoialisim are failed ideologies....Hillary is all for socialisim.
In four years of office, she is not going to turn the whole country into a socialist one. Maybe she’ll be socializing medical health care, but that’s only if she can fight all those balding old men in Congress. Which is doubtful, since health care in this country is so screwed up that it would take 20 years just to settle on some plan , and then God knows if it would actually get carried out in its entirety.
PCG, when I was young and stupid (some will argue that its still the case), I researched Hillary's proposed Medical plan. It will scare the crap out of you if you wish to give it a study in detail. Socializing the medicine is not the answer, it has not worked for europe and canada and will not work here either. In addition, she will turn this country into bunch of sissy's who will negotiate with terrorists and hence allow them to flourish (Al-Qaeda grew leaps and bounds under the watchful eyes of her husband). Furthermore, she already ruled US for 8 years :)
There have been females designated with honors as "Doctor of the Church."
Lat. Doctores Ecclesiae) -- Certain ecclesiastical writers have received this title on account of the great advantage the whole Church has derived from their doctrine
St. Catherine of Sienna
St. Theresa of Avila
St. Therese of Lisieux
I suppose fair to question equality of females in the catholic tradition. Many do.
For myself...I think I would find strange a female priest celebrating mass....not because I feel a female isn't capable...only that it would be so completely different from what I am used to.
Though...we do have female "alter boys" at my church. My own niece even.
margret thacher was Uk prime minister for over a decade,Indira gandhi was indian pm for 15 yrs.Benazir bhutto was the youngest pm in the world.present newzealand pm is a female,British head of state always remain a female rt from queen victoria
Ah, don't bother Sara, I think he just likes the attention, no one really thinks as he does, if so, I really pity his mother, sisters, aunts, any female he is in contact with. He just likes pushing people's buttons.
