Fell in love w/ this drama

i am looking for the name of this drama. Please someone help me, i would really appreciate it. :flower1: i saw many qists of this drama, but always missed the title. i LOVED this drama… very very different, and very interesting… would love to know what the name of it is, but unfortunately i always happened to miss it. This was during Ramadan, and i had to go for taraweeh so i’d always miss the beginning of the drama (when presumably they aired the title).

The drama was directed by Saira Qazmi. It looked like it was produced in the late 1980s/early 1990s.

One of the main actresses in the drama is the same lady who is the hostess of ARY Gold - um, that show where they give away free gold to people. She has really short hair in this drama. i don’t know her name, but she seems like a good actress. i THINK she was in Dhoop Kinarey also?

Plot of the drama: Focuses on three families - A, B, and C.

Family A is comprised of husband, wife, husband’s younger sister (around 14/15 years old), husband and wife’s four young children, and husband’s older brother (who lives in Dubai but comes to Pakistan for a visit).

Family B: only husband and wife; husband is some senior-level governmental official; wife is that ARY actress and in the drama she plays a former model who gave up her modelling after her marriage and now is a housewife/homemaker. She gets involved, later on in the drama, with some NGO type work helping village women make embroidered clothes that she sells through an uncle of her’s. There is marital tension between this husband and wife, because of the husband’s long hours away at work, and wife’s bitterness at not working post-marriage, and lack of communication between both. In the end, things are sorted out though.

Family C: one elderly father, with two daughters and one son. Elderly father is half-crazy, wants to marry someone half his age. His elder daughter is a doctor. Besides this, she is very intelligent, very ambitious, very kind-natured. Son works as a child labourer in a restaurant.

Family A’s husband is trying to look for work, during most of the drama. At first he is mean-tempered, but slowly he becomes nicer towards his wife. Family A’s wife is the real pillar of strength, she is a devoted wife, loving mother, shoulders all the burdens of her family… does anything and everything. Amazing woman. Her husband forces one of their sons to attend a madrassah where the child is beaten up until he is unconscious, by the Imam in the madrassah. Family B’s government official comes to the rescue, saves the child, reprimands the Imam.

Does anyone know which drama i am talking about? They show all types of social and economic problems in this drama: kidnapping of children into slave labour gangs; domestic abuse; NGO corruption/successes; wife-husband relationship; girls being married at a very young age to older men… this drama is amazingly directed, and everyone acts so realistically in it. i fell in love with this drama… what is it called? :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Does anyone which drama i am referring to or have i described something completely inexplicable? :o

If my memory serves me right, the drama you are talkign about is ‘Nijaat’ with Atiqa Odho, Noman Aijaz, Mareena Khan and Huma Nawab. This is the only one that fits the description as far as I think

p.s Nadia, good to see you around :flower1: You described it well enough.

Saby,

First of all, aap kaise hain? How are you doing? How is your family?

How is life in general treating you?

Acha… secondly, aap nai kamaal kar dia. Do you know that, my mother and i have been going crazy trying to find the name of this drama. Short of harassing the Pakistani Association of the city i live in (that is responsible for broadcasting this drama), i have done everything possible to try and find this drama. Of course, one of the first places i checked was the internet. Got nowhere because i didn’t know the names of the main actors/actresses. Phir, Pakistani Association sai poocha - baar baar tang kia unn ko. i’m sure they thought i must be a few screws loose… then i bothered the local desi lady who owns a video store in our area… she must have thought i have gone off the edge as well.

You are absolutely right, this was the drama. i googled “Nijaat” and this was it. This is Atiqa Odho, who plays the amazing wife/mother of Family A.

And this is Sajid Hassan, the government official dude who is very fair and just:

Thank you SO much. :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: i am seriously in love with this drama…cried in some parts… it’s just too good for words. Whoever made it, deserves an award. Thank you SO MUCH, Saby, thank you so much.

hey... just read this on a website and it is kind of disturbing (in my opinion anyways):

*[Nijaat] was a project of JOHN Hopkins UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA, it was about family planning..

Is it true that a foreign-based university funded this drama ?

Not certain if i entirely agree with that, to be honest. Conflict of interest. Every funding-source has its biases and its own vested interests in furthering any project... and JH university, as esteemed as it is, is no exception.

I dont know about that project stuff. Yes, I remember the issues which were discussed in this serial were pretty 'hot' those days. 'Family planning' was a term in its infancy and aim of the drama was to create awareness in the society about it. Who else but Hasina Moin could write such a slick serial (I hope i am right)

p.s Nadia, you are welcome and can expect a pm shortly :-p

:o woohoo :D :D :D

Thanks, Saby... and not just for telling me the name of the drama, but for everything i mean.

That was a Good Drama!! I enjoyed watching it! I remember it was funded by some NGO or something or another since it was about fam. planning. Didn't think it could be a John Hopkins project.

oh..Saira Kazmi's dramas are really nice...:D
