why do i feel like i’m going to puke after a 45 minute workout?
I’ve only started working out last week, 2 hours after breakfast (which is light enough).
I do 15 minutes of cardio and half an hour of upper or lower body exercises including weight lifting/stretching etc. I drink at least 3 glasses of water during this workout so I’m not dehydrated or anything.
Is it just because my body needs to get used to this? I do remember when my sister used to go to the gym she used to talk about how she felt really sick, so its not just me.
PS: Please answer this question asap since we only have 7 hours before GS shuts down
^exactly,, you just need to get used to it further more make it 2 nd half hour after the breakfast.
btw,, you dont eat paratha (or any other heavy meal containing oil) by any chance in your breakfast,, do you????

hey, you are probably feeling this way because you are not cooling down after your cardio or other workout. you know while your muscles are actively moving so the blood is goes towards the working muscles and when you stop you kinda feel dizy

Maybe, therein lies your problem. From what I've heard...if you're just starting out (and you only started out 2 weeks ago)....you can keep the exercise 15-30 minutes.....and then gradually increase the time. Trying to do too much can burn you out...and even demotivate you.
It could even be the combination of your exercises. You say you do 15 minutes of cardio......and usually cardio exercises (such as running) will work out all part of your body.....so maybe there's no need for you to do the upper/lower body workout after your cardio. You can just go to weights after cardio. You can even reserve weights until before going to sleep. It is recommended to do weights before bed time....because while you sleep...your body repairs your muscles....and this "repairing" burns extra calories during your sleep.
Also (I know you're not sick)...but you're not supposed to work out when you're ill.....as that will make you ill-er. Your immune system is using all its energy to fight the illness....and has little to spare for rigorous activity.
I'm guessing your body is still adjusting? Make sure you eat something very light (but something that will give you energy) an hour or so before you work out - something like a smoothie, banana, yoghurt....something around 100-200 cals.
Water has zero calories…so it could be that while you’re making sure that you’re well-hydrated…your body has very little food energy stored up…and exerting yourself so much during the workout is making you sick. Eat something healthy beforehand as Maroush suggested. You could try a baked sweet potato, for example…highly nutritious and known to provide all the nutrients you need for rigorous workout.
umar25x: No I have given up parathas. I eat cereals for breakfast, or tinyyy bit of yoghurt with fruits, or porridge etc… something quite light.
Spock: I drink one glass before cardio. One glass during cardio. And one glass during the pilates/weight training.
Alyna: That’s true I will incorporate cool down stretches after cardio.
redvelvet: sound advice. I am not pushing myself way too hard, I am trying to build up my strength and speed gradually. Lifting weights before bed time is a good tip but then I’d be all sweaty … besides, 45 minutes isn’t really that long… once I get to a stage where I’ll be able to do cardio for 30 minutes to an hour then obviously I’ll have to change this routine because its quite hard to spare 2 hours for workout at one time. And no I so won’t have the energy to workout when I’m sick.
Maroushy: Yup I do eat something light. I have even given up my morning tea because that would dehydrate me. And I also drink 2 glasses of water before breakfast (trying to get into the habit of NOT drinking water after we eat as it dilutes the digestive juices and it takes longer to digest the food)
Sorry about the long post guys, I was away from GS for a few hours and couldn’t keep up with all your comments. Thank you so much
I will report back here in a couple of weeks to let you know if I still feel sick after working out.
well, you're going from having slept and therefore fasting for at least 8 hours (probably 11 if you have dinner a decent time before sleeping). Then you're eating 'something light', haven't had carbs for ages and then expecting to be able to put your body through 45mins of workout.
try moving it to the evening instead. eat well at lunch so you won't be hungry at 5-6pm and have the energy to workout.
you'll probably have to experiment a bit to find the best time of day for you.

I think this might be the cause right here... my daily routine is a bit messed up these days because i have no college so don't be shocked when I tell u that I go to sleep at around 3 AM and wake up at around 1 PM :@: .. Breakfast is after namaz at 2 PM, workout is at 4 PM, lunch at 5:30 PM, dinner at 7:30 and light snack (like an apple) at 9:00 and thats it for the day.... so yeah I'm kinda fasting for ~15 hours!
For now, 4 PM is the best time for me to workout for various reasons but I will experiment ... I'll keep at this same routine for 2 more weeks but If I keep feeling sick after working out I will definitely shift it to another time (e.g. after lunch as u said)
Always start slow and do not be too ambitious. I know it is very difficult to hold yourself specially if you took the time and effort to go to the Gym and want the best outcome from the time you spent or spared for this event.
Total 45 min **at the beginning **as you mentioned is a bit too much.
Always start cardio on short time like 5 to 10 min. if never was done before or was not done for a while.
Never drink water in the middle of workout.
Never drink water immediately after work out.
It is okay to drink water or mineral fluid about 30 min or more before work out though.
I do not think you will die of dehydration immediately after exercise unless you have some other medical issues.
Always take a break between activities which involve extreme exercise activities.
Print this and put it on your refrigerator with a magnet for future reference. …
Thanks diwana I’ll keep those in mind. But its not 45 minutes cardio, I just do 15 minutes of cardio which I can handle without any difficulty.
And reddi… dudette I needz ta take a shower after cardio too.. which would be earlier on in the day… and if I lift weights before bed time I seriously am too lazy to take a shower again… me n my issues!
But as I said, I will experiment and keep u guys updated…
I agree you can possibly handle the cardio at that level.
But you and anyone needs to know that it is not just about being able to handle cardio for X number of minutes without having a heart attack and die.
It is about training the heart to generate enough heart rate which commensurates with the heart ability to contract enough and not going in to what is called a vagal response or sudden slowing of heart after a fast heart rate and being nauseous or feel like passing out (many people actually pass out and hit the ground) some feel like what you said as puking.
Keep up the good work out and exercise for good health and longevity.
P.S. It only takes men five minutes to take freshening shower…and for women a little more even at night before going to bed.
If you develop this habit, your future husband will definitely appreciate your habit…just give me some credit when ‘he’ does appreciate it…
Nice! I have found a board where I can come in handy!
Here are some questions you need to answer for us before we can give you an answer.
When is the last time you had a fitness regime?
How old are you?
Are you over weight?
These are just some questions.
Pushing yourself hard will make people want to puke. In fact at my gym during fighter training, guys who puke get a round of applause from everyone else. It just means they are pushing themselves to the max. Thats good if your already a conditioned fighter but not so good if your out of shape.
Also, everyone's body is different so it might even be the water you are drinking during training. Some people can drink lots of water and some people cant. Simple as that.
Give yourself some time!
Also, please if people want to get GOOD workouts please come to my gym in Lahore. No weights, just body weights and martial arts. But none of the mystical magical Paindu stuff. Just the latest fitness techniques from overseas.
Shaheen MMA Academy Lahore is all you need to google. You will be seeing mroe of me on these boards. I promise!
