Its become a bit of a constant thought going in my mind now , everytime I set my foot outside the home ..
All these incidents about which we read in the papers and watch on the news , just take a toll on us sometimes . I cant help looking at whose walking behind me when I am walking the street , hate sitting in the bus on the front row coz I cant see who is sitting behind me etc ..
Have you guys felt similar feelings ?
I read two incidents where men attacked completely randomly on people sitting on the public buses . Another incident where a man was attacked with an electric saw in Asda ( walmart ) ,another one , where a muslim woman was randomly harrassed and punched causing severe injuring to her head etc etc
Incidents like these just make life so much more difficult . How do you deal with this phenomenon? I worry more , coz i have a little vulnerable kid with me and just want to keep him safe .
After 911 my wife suffered from depression and her doctor asked her to not watch news, she goes around happily with her business. Media also blows things out of proportion, fact is that there are thousands of non-racially motivated violent acts. We just had a road rage incident in our city where this white male broke this white woman’s both arms and this didn’t even make national news, now if this was a white brown incident it would be internationally publicized. Dress and present yourself so you don’t stick out or become a target.
Its terrible for anyone to have such feeling and that makes me think what kind of world we are living in! Wouldnt we be better off if we go back and live in our home country (ofcourse when it gets more peace and economic prosperity, one day iA).
This is where the problem is as well Sid , I dont think its about this country or any specific country . Its just the general environment of fear and distrust that is now building up around us .
Plus those of us who have lived and been brought up in countries that are different from our countries of Origin , its difficult to think of leaving them behind . Pakistan has its own set of serious issues .
I think , its not the countries , its the people . We have to be so vigilant , so alert when we are out of our homes . In situations , we have to act and think quickly to keep ourselves secure .
I wont lie , ever since we read about the Tunisia beach firing killing so many innocent people on holiday , a british family lost three generations that day , father , son and grandfather . I have had too many nightmares about it . It does affect us at the end of the day .
