Re: Feeling genuinely sorry for Pakistani fans…
Some1 my comment was not focused on afridi….afridi is a horrible public speaker as far as “political correctness” is concerned…I already said that inzi would have never made such stupid comments though inzi is more religious than afridi….it is just common sense, which afridi lacks for most part…plus same afridi is defending india and asking pakistani reporters not to “hate” india in another press conference…..link is given in sehr’s post…
so forget afridi…..if you read my post/comment in context to “broader societal norms” being practiced in India and Pakistan, it may make more sense to you…that is all…
speaking of Bangladesh, let me borrow a line from sehr’s post, which really hit the nail on head…For Pakistanis, there’s a fine line between whether you are a muslim first, or pakistani first, and most (actually 99%) would say they are muslim first…Indians always conveniently ignore that Pakistan was created on the name of religion and two-nation theory (right or wrong…that is a separate debate but this is the foundation of our existence…we think that if we compromise on it little too much, we will lose our ideological foundation)…Bangladesh on the other hand was created purely on the name of nationalism…
Bengalis first supported the movement of Pakistan in 1947 on the name of Islam and two nation theory but 25 years later separated themselves based on nationalism (of course there were political reasons but Bengalis had a very strong sense of nationalism. they were proud of their language, culture, heritage, history, art, music, philosophers, food etc..we in west pakistan on the other hand had less of nationalism and more of “superiority complex being a martial race”, “pan Islamic-phobia” and “guardian of Muslims in the whole subcontinent”)…so the psyche of both nations is totally different…Pakistanis tend to view everything from prism of religion - more than any other muslim country…Bengalis by the way are more devoted to religion than Pakistanis but they tend to be more nationalistic like Indians when it comes to delineating their personal lives from religion.…plus Bangladesh has a lot more Hindus than Pakistan…we have ZERO in our largest province Punjab for instance…
