Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

the thing is I am not so sure if I can really start feeding her all that stuff like egg and soji, even though my ammi tells me that u can. And I have forgatten when I started certain foods with my first girl. :smack:

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

even my mom started my solid intake with half boiled egg too. eggs are very good for babies. she also gave me nestle's cerelac. I'll PM you soon !

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

my ammi was telling me i was eating peeled and puried apples at month 2 !!

at old age they were more brave with feeding babies, today u have to be careful about allergies and what not, read certain parental forums, which i have stopped reading now, u would give ur baby just milk and nothing else :smack:

I didnt think egg was OK for a baby under 1, especially they advise to avoid egg yolk due to possible allergies…etc…

I have started my little one on mashed carrots/apples/pears etc. She only likes the carrots so far and also rice cereal…i do let her taste what we are eating to get used to tastes…like a few tastes of salan…she likes halwa…which i give her really really soft (not sure she should be having that)

Saadia are you giving her the teething biscuits? The indian stores here sell these glucose biscuits called Parle…they are pretty good and she loves chewing on them, they dont break right away…

like u saadia i have forgotten what i fed my son/ and when

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

6 months is old enough to eat a whole lot of variety.. just nto dairy .. eggs are ok but only yolk.. but u know.. its diff from country tou country.. what they do in denmark is a major NO NO in canada or US.. so in the end its all bout common sense and what you feel comfy with

at 6 months i was feeding my son pears, apples, carrots, potatoes, bananas, rice porridge, oatmeal, barley, sooji, kichri, apricots, peaches, plums,

just remmeber the 4 day rule of ruling out allergies ... but go ahead.. she can have so much ..

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

In Pakistan they start around 4 months, give or take a little.
6 months is a good age to start, I think they're ready by that time.Is she interested in your food when your eating?

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

thank you all for the tips.

I think my baRi was eating more at this age.

Khawateen, thats a loads of stuff ur son eating MA .. do u make the food yourself, like boil and mash the carrots ect.. or do you buy them in glas jars like from HiPP or Nestle ?

Yes she is showing interest in our food, her tongue sticks out as soon as we put a spoon or food near her mouth and she smacks with her mouth and makes those noices as she is enjoying the food.

I think I will go to the stores and buy some food ,like baby cereal and baby formula to mix it with as she is too young for cow mik. I will look out for sugarless as most of them have some sugar in them.

Afro .. I have those biscuts at home, but she is not showing interest in them yet, no teeth anywhere yet.

I like the idea of egg, i think its ok if you buy fresh and bio ones and I like the tought of giving her some food that we eat so that she gets a taste of it.

Yesterday evening I gave her half a glas jar of baby biscuit cereal and did she sleep well .. otherwise it was constant feeding. So I will be doing this more now.

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

sadia.. i make the food myself.. i dont trust jar food.. especially not the veggies or pasta... fruits jars i only only do if i am travelling.. plus my son hates them

he also hates HIPP products.. finds them too strong in taste :D

but i do buy diff porridges from nestle like wheat with prunes and rice cereal with fruits etc.. i also make my own porridge

ya i just boil the carrots and mash them or blend them.. since she is 6 months.. u can pretty much blend any fruit or most veggies and give them to her after steaming them.. try mixing potatoes with carrots

u can use ure own breastmilk u know.. if u pump .. for cooking... say ure makign porridge, first cook it in water. it will go thick.. then add ure breastmilk to thin it out to a consistency ure daughter will be able to eat.. but ya.. u can add formula too.. remember to add butter to every meal . 1 tsp.. atleast thats what we are recommended here in denmark.. babies cant get enough fat for their growing bodies just from breastmilk or formula once they are past the 6 month mark..

teething biscuits most babies are able to eat in biscuit form at 8 months.. before that u can dissolve teh biscuit in some formula nad feed like a thick cereal

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

Egg yolks are fine before the child turns one, after which you can add on the whites, same for shell fish though some people prefre to wiat till 3 on that one. I wouln't start off egg yolks first though, I started my kids on egg yolks at 8 months.

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

u can try meat as well, like shredded chicken

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

my son had egg yolks at 5 months.. just not the whole yolk.. but by 6 months he had it whole.. loved it and still does..

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

Can u make sooji without milk? recipe?

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

somr real good suggestions khawteen.

i am a lazy butt and feed her Hipp and plus she like em so did my elder one.

no pumpin shumping .. it turns me off!

Devill .. I bought this sooji box from baby's section ..it already has formula init so just need to add water .. but the recipe would be good too.

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

i know my daughter loves halwa made from sooji. I usually just take say a teaspoon of butter in a fry pan, add like a tablespoon of sooji & saute. When lightly toasty add 1/2 cup hot water that is mixed with a little sugar. I make it soft for her, like runny.

Khawateen how did you feed your son the fruits? Did you boil & mash or just mash fresh?
My daughter's pediatrician told me I can give her:
juices - apple, pear & grape
Fruit Purees: Apple, carrot, pear...stage 1 stuff
and rice cereal

i dun think that's enough cuz she doesnt like rice cereal...but she happened to like the taste of pilao i had given her mashed up real good. She seems to really like flavor, not the bland rice powder cereal.

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

Thanks for the recipe... ill try it today!! ^^

Re: feeding a 6 month old baby

saadia: it doesnt take time at all… its jhat pat.. u can also make yakhni and freeze it.. it holds for long…

afro: its desi concept to steam fruit and then puree it… its not necessary.. i dont know how old ure baby is.. but babies from 6m months can usually eat grated fruit.. i was shell shocked when i was told i was being stupid for steaming my fruit.. it should only be done if ure gonna be freezing it

all u gotta do is make ure the fruit is ripe.. take the smallest of grating surface.. and grate.. u will be amazed to see that it just turns to mush.. just feed like that.. steaming and cooking fruits veggies etc also changes the taste.. sometimes for good and sometimes for bad.. my son prefers unsteamed fruit but steamed veggies …

afro.. u can also add spices to ure babies food u know.. we only think of salt or pepper or honey as spice uppers or sweetners .. but man u can use so much more.. here is a link that i love.. for recipes and other info:

When can Baby Have Spices? Spices for Baby in Food, Spice Up Homemade Baby Food and Learn What Spices to Add to Homemade Baby Food

if she wants to eat pulao.. give it to her.. its fantastic. u can also give her wheat cereal.. i never gave my son cereals by themselves.. its a good way of including veggies in them or fruits cuz both are not filling enough to be given by themselves.. but if u add them to rice or toast or cereal, it makes a wholesome meal .
