feedback on swimming pools

Hi,

We are soon building our new house. Hubby wants pool. We never had a pool in our house. We dont know wat to expects downsides of having pool in our backyard.
I am looking for feedback on swimming pools. What are the issues that guys had to face with swimming pool.

Thanks

Re: feedback on swimming pools

Property tax hike.. One downside of pool I’m sure yr hubby should be aware of

Re: feedback on swimming pools

If you go to your maika , he can have pool parties with neighborhood ladies.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

Safety. Especially if you have kids. Or for neighborhood kids if the access your pool.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

what is property tax hike?? I am aware of this

Re: feedback on swimming pools

my maike will be opposite to my house so no chance

Re: feedback on swimming pools

baychara , I have all my sympathies for him.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

Tax on your house gets increased due to swimming pool but that’s just a minor factor. If you guys really want to hv pool, go for it

Re: feedback on swimming pools

seriously. bechara :frowning:

Re: feedback on swimming pools

Pool is a huge expense to maintain. I am not sure where you live, in 80% of USA, 80% of the times, you need heated water to enjoy the pool. That itself will rise your monthly bill

I am in Australia and here there is no tax on main resistance regardless of increase in vale.

@TLK: oh I wasnt aware of heating water in pool.

As I am totally new to having a pool I have no idea about running expenses or other costs associated with it
Thanks guy

Re: feedback on swimming pools

To keep it hygienic it needs to have a small chlorination unit attached to it, pump system and possibly heating. Covers and cleaning takes time and it will require a lot of planning for the hole in the ground will be much bigger than the pool. The expense of putting one in is quite high.

It can be a cool feature for house parties though.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

Chlorine and boiler maintenance.. My parents’ house has a pool.. Obviously here in the UK an outdoor pool can only really be used in the summer though (by humans, the ducks don’t seem to mind :p).. In the house before that our pool had a cover on it most of the year, clearing falling leaves can get annoying.. Parents have a creepy crawly (a cleaner that sort of floats around in the pool) but it stills need to cleaned by a person as well..

Re: feedback on swimming pools

you can get one of those metal-frame pools if you want them for fun/activity …they don’t look nice but are as much fun.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

My hubby and his family grew up with a pool in their backyard.
They were the outgoing family, kids hung out at their place , pool parties etc.you name it.

They were the outdoorsy kind, so did not mind maintaining the pool. It is not easy work at all. If you neglect the pool, just imagine what a headache it is to clean.

When my children were younger we moved into a house with a pool. Huge, huge backyard, with the pool off on one side. It had its own 10ft high metal enclosure. Safety was always the primary concern. We maintained the pool ourselves. I hated, hated it. Hubby and FIL did most of it. Children wanted to be in the pool all day if they could. And they were in the pool from early morning till it got hot, then again back in the late afternoons till evening. I hated the endless wet clothes, towels, bathing the children.

The positive is that all my children inc daughters are fantastic swimmers. The girls wore swim suits when younger,a s they got older they wore leggings with t shirts , and learnt to swim in those. That’s kinda unheard of from a kinda Conservative Desi family. Because most folks we encounter, the sons know how to swim , but the daughters are unable to.

We sold the house and left the area. We heard a few years ago the family that purchased the house, forgot to lock the door of the enclosure around the pool. sadly their toddler drowned in the same pool my children grew up swimming in.

Re: feedback on swimming pools

My wife has imposed the in-laws on me for half a year, in way or another. Now I try to avoid them as much as possible. Wife doesn’t get that Im sick and tired of them.

Women don’t get that imposing inlaws on your spouse leads to nothing good in the long run. And its certainly not a laughing matter.

I read it “My hubby and his family grew up in a pool in their backyard.”

Re: feedback on swimming pools

The same goes for Men, in fact more women than men have to suffer and are told to suck it up  anyhow, it’s not really relevant to the thread, is it?
