We are soon building our new house. Hubby wants pool. We never had a pool in our house. We dont know wat to expects downsides of having pool in our backyard.
I am looking for feedback on swimming pools. What are the issues that guys had to face with swimming pool.
Pool is a huge expense to maintain. I am not sure where you live, in 80% of USA, 80% of the times, you need heated water to enjoy the pool. That itself will rise your monthly bill
To keep it hygienic it needs to have a small chlorination unit attached to it, pump system and possibly heating. Covers and cleaning takes time and it will require a lot of planning for the hole in the ground will be much bigger than the pool. The expense of putting one in is quite high.
It can be a cool feature for house parties though.
Chlorine and boiler maintenance.. My parents’ house has a pool.. Obviously here in the UK an outdoor pool can only really be used in the summer though (by humans, the ducks don’t seem to mind :p).. In the house before that our pool had a cover on it most of the year, clearing falling leaves can get annoying.. Parents have a creepy crawly (a cleaner that sort of floats around in the pool) but it stills need to cleaned by a person as well..
My hubby and his family grew up with a pool in their backyard.
They were the outgoing family, kids hung out at their place , pool parties etc.you name it.
They were the outdoorsy kind, so did not mind maintaining the pool. It is not easy work at all. If you neglect the pool, just imagine what a headache it is to clean.
When my children were younger we moved into a house with a pool. Huge, huge backyard, with the pool off on one side. It had its own 10ft high metal enclosure. Safety was always the primary concern. We maintained the pool ourselves. I hated, hated it. Hubby and FIL did most of it. Children wanted to be in the pool all day if they could. And they were in the pool from early morning till it got hot, then again back in the late afternoons till evening. I hated the endless wet clothes, towels, bathing the children.
The positive is that all my children inc daughters are fantastic swimmers. The girls wore swim suits when younger,a s they got older they wore leggings with t shirts , and learnt to swim in those. That’s kinda unheard of from a kinda Conservative Desi family. Because most folks we encounter, the sons know how to swim , but the daughters are unable to.
We sold the house and left the area. We heard a few years ago the family that purchased the house, forgot to lock the door of the enclosure around the pool. sadly their toddler drowned in the same pool my children grew up swimming in.
My wife has imposed the in-laws on me for half a year, in way or another. Now I try to avoid them as much as possible. Wife doesn’t get that Im sick and tired of them.
Women don’t get that imposing inlaws on your spouse leads to nothing good in the long run. And its certainly not a laughing matter.
