Today is a day for marking solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self determination.
This thread is to discuss the international community’s role in this conflict, past, present and future. Clearly, given that three wars have been fought over this territory, and it remains a casus belli for hawks on either side, international diplomacy has not played an effective role. What should the role of Pakistan’s allies realistically be? Is there an comparable response to this crisis by the OIC and unofficial Muslim Ummah as there has been to other Muslim tragedies, such as Palestine? Or is this seen by them as more of a regional dispute with no relevance as a Muslim cause?
Discuss this here, and please retain your compusure when discussing this understandably emotion stirring topic.
To start off with, heres some international (not involving India and Pakistan) focus/coverage on Kashmir with respect to Kashmir solidarity day.
Well if you see the response to the “day” in Srinagar you will understand the ground situation. The Hurriyat conference was able to mobilise hundreds of thousands of people during the summer amd six moths later … you see the picture and you can count the number of protestors on your finger. It is time for India and Pakistan to resolve the issue on their own … for that Pakistan has to step and act independent of its US masters!!!
I guess there has not been much coverage of this in local press(Kashmir) as Hurriyat is going through some internal “squabbling” … so no time for Kashmir issue as they are busy with their own affairs !!!
Re: Feb 5th - Kashmir Solidarity Day - World Perspectives
There is not role for any third party mediation in Kashmir. Kashmir is an issue between India & Pakistan, and can only be solved through cooperation between those two countries.
Ofcourse, a precursor to any sort or dialogue/agreement has to be for Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism in Kashmir and other parts of India, and ensure prosecution (either in India or Pak) of those involved in prior acts of terrorism against India.
Re: Feb 5th - Kashmir Solidarity Day - World Perspectives
What solidarity day?
Nonsense!!!
Those `poochas' who took part in the procession should go to Pakistan and understand how really unsafe is Pakistan, and forget about joining Pakistan or even think about becoming an independent state.
